> Unlocking my Orange K750i to accept a '3' sim

Hi all,
just got myself a brand new K800i on O2 and must say I am VERY happy with it...
This however leaves me with my Orange K750i up for grabs (which of course my girlfriend has claimed for her own), only problem is every other sim othen then the Orange one originally provided isn't working.
Can someone advise as to how I can remedy this please?

You can ask Orange to unlock the phone, but they will charge (not 100% sure but normally about £30)
You can take it or send it to one of the shops which advertise unlocking services (normally charge about £10)
You can do it yourself using the wotan server or da vinci. You will need to download their software (usually free) and following their instructions, buy some credits (usually around £7-£10) and unlock your own phone.
I have personally used the da vinci software and successfully de-branded and unlocked a K750. Unlocking and de-branding a two seperate operations and will require 2 credits.
I hope this info is what your after.

I've never had a 3G phone some not sure if the sim is physically the same size as non 3G sim. Even if it is, you will not get any of the benefits of 3G network on the K750.

3G USIMS asre exactly the same size physically as GSM SIMS, in fact I have successfully used a 2.5G Tesco SIM in both a Sanyo S750i on Orange and a Motorola C975 that is supposedly permanently locked to 3. (I assume it's 2G only, Tesco don't have access to O2's 3G network as yet)
As for using 3's USIMS in a 2G only phone, I don't know, I do know that Superdrug are handing out free 3 USIMS, but I've only tried a 3 USIM in a very old Nokia 3310 and it refused to turn on.
I do know that 3 roam on O2's 2G network (and are apparently changing over to Orange's 2G network at the end of the year) so theoretically a 2G phone would eventually connect to that network.

These smart cards can contain multiple applications at once, so it's possible for a USICC card to be both 2G and 3G at the same time, by running both SIM and USIM. Other examples of applications on a UICC smart card is phone book and SMS storage.
2G phones only support the SIM application, and will not work with a card without it.
3G-pure phones will only work with cards with USIM on them. I don't believe any 3G-pure phones actually exist though, except possibly in japan.
3G/2G dualmode phones (all of SEs 3G offerings) will support both the SIM and USIM applications on a card.
So to answer the OP's question, it's probably not possible, since I assume 3 UK (as in my experience does 3 Sweden) have USIM-only cards, which dont work in GSM-only phones.

If you unlock using Davicini then you have no probs as it rewrites the software with the cable. Unlock code from orange costs £20
Regarding using you 3 sim in a orange phone, Yes you can.
However if you are on contract 3 now lock there sims to the phone also 3 have in the passed cancelled the contract and made there customers pay for the remainder of it.
On PAYG, Again 3 have been known to cancel the sim card.
The networks know what phones u are using from when you switch on,
3 is the only network that dont really like you to Sim swap into other phones.
I know that 3 have been looking into some new technology that the sim cards will be built into the phone to stop this from happneing.

When you are using a 2g network, three is not getting any benefits from u using there own network.
Thats why they dont like you to do this.
Just to let you know tho.
From the end of this year, 3 will start to use Oranges network to fall back on as the 02 contract comes to a end next summer.
