welcome

(try to use some lower case if your posts please)
I've often wondered this but considering some manufacturers supply cases with strong magnets, such as my i-mate k-jam and the i-mate jam before that, you have to assume they know what they are doing
also, my brother has used a magnetic dashboard phone holder in the car for some years and has not complained of any problems with his phones

the only one I know that recommends NOT using mag latched cases
is the Moto U6 PEBL because of it's flip closure locking mechanism !!!

My goodness, this guy's a screamer. Lower down you voice a bit, dude.

Well, AFAIK I've never heard of any complaint from magnetically closed cases, and most of my friends and myself included have one.

They are fine.
I am interested with these new phones with hdd's like the Nokia N91 as of course this uses magnetic recording.
Ever put your PC near a HI-FI speaker? ......Don't!!!
P.S. Come to think of it the some camera phone with an auto-focus device would probably use electromagnets themselves but the field would be very weak and localized. So I concur with everybody else.

I don't know if it might cause any permanent damage, but on my old T39m, a magned actually did have an effect on the phone. The lid that covers the keys on the phone contains a small magnet, that affects a reed relay inside the phone so that the keyboard is not only protected mecanically by the lid, but also locked electrically. When I fixed the phone to the dashboard using a magnet, the keyboard remained locked even when the lid was opened. (Actually, I used an Ericsson original holder for the phone, to which I had attacted a small steel plate, that the magnet was holding, since the battery on the T39 is a lithium-polymer type, which is not very magnetic.)

Magnet can affect display if is near, but generally no problems... And I donīt think that PEBL would have problems with it eighter...

@altlis - the pebl manual states NOT to use one ! I know from experience
what happens - the phone wont stay shut for a while - you have to leave
it open for about an hour before it'll close again !!!!!
A bit of a shock I can tell you.

Really?

That sux...

So it seems that in one part of the shell is magnet and the other is only feromagnetic metal and it changes its polarity...
