> M600i - 3G and GPRS
Bookmark topic
Hi guys,
Im not a real expert on this but i have a quick question. I have been using the M600i surfing the web and gettting my emails connecting using optus(in australia) GPRS, which has been fine. Now i recently got a 3g sim card, and i thought getting on this new network would give me a faster way to surf the web. Now im not too sure how to set it up. I have a 3g signal attached etc, but when i try and use the web\get emails it will always connect using the GPRS. But i want it to connect using the 3g network.
Am i missing the point of 3G? Is it just for video calls? Or does it in fact make GPRS faster?

3G does indeed make data connectivity (web, email etc) faster and should be a transparent process (or at least it is in the UK). You might not find it that much faster though depending on the data rates set by your provider, certainly O2 famously cap bandwidth with their 3G sims, only allowing full data on their 3G PC cards.

I never had M600 in my hands, but what I know from Nokia 3G phones, there is a setting in the menu, enabling and disabling 3G (so called dual mode). Try to have a look somewhere in the connections menu, maybe it is there...

Is T-Mobile in the UK 3G? My phone has a little 3G icon in the upper left corner but I too have noticed when it connects to T-Mobile, it always uses the GPRS Internet Connection. Is it using 3G?

I have T-Mobile with Web'n'Walk. But I think I have an ordinary SIM. It worked in my Moto PEBL and in this M600i. Any way to check?
Is 3G always on?

I haven't done this as I live in the US where 2100mhz 3G is unavailable but I would try:
Main Menu-->Tools-->Control Panel-->Connections-->Mobile Networks-->under "search" tab
select More-->3G only or 3G/GSM
It should find the network that supports 3G. Also, if you are under the "Preferred list" tab--.More-->Add network
you can manually add a network to the preferred list and change priority to the list.
That being said...I wish I lived outside of the US...
