If you set any alarm and you turn the phone off, the alarm doesn't work.
The phone doesn't turn on ... it was many years since I saw something like this. I hope it will be fixed soon or I'll sell this phone

this was also the same with the P800, P900 and P910 and will probably be the same in the P990

if this is your reason for selling then you probably might as well do it now

on the other hand, the usual suggestion to work around this is to put the phone into flight mode when you go to sleep, rather than turning it off completely

That could be a solution but I'am really disappointed. First there isn't any indication of missing calls or received sms when the phone is in stand by, now the alarm. Is SonyEricsson improving with their new phones or what?

The inability of a computer-phone to wake up on an alarm simply indicates that you can truly switch it off, while you can not do that with a basic phone. Flight mode can be used to turn off only the phone part.

If the phone came on with set alarms, then you wouldn't be able to truly shut off your device just by powering off the phone, you would actually have to delete/disable the alarms first and then shut the phone off. With Flight Mode all you have to do is switch it to Flight Mode if you want the alarms/pda functons or to Off if to truly shut the device down. Isn't it simpler this way?

True, but i think some of us would rather be able to turn off the phone while we sleep and not deactivate the alarm function. Perhaps the best solution would be to have a choice where we can either enable or disable the alarm when the phone is turned off. This message was posted from a WAP device

You can't have that function on a pda..... people as a rule input several alarms in calendar etc. if you're in a meeting and you switch the phone off, you need to make sure that it doesn't keep switching on every time you get a reminder to buy bread!!!!!

Mind you, I really don't see the advantage of switching an M600i or P series off over night as the battery life is so good on them anyway! but thats just me!

Well I'm speaking about wake up alarms, not those related to calendar.
Anyway I can accept the flight mode solution. Anyone knows if it's possible to do something about missing calls and sms when the phone is in standby ? Can it be solved with a 3rd part screensaver ? It's very annoying to tap the phone every now and then...

You can turn off the energy saving option and put the low light screen option to 0%. This way the screen never turns off completely and you don't have to press any buttons to see missed calls and new messages. It is, of course, negative for battery life since the screen doesn't turn off and even at 0% lighting it is still somewhat lit. Battery life is still good though, but perhaps that is because i turned 3G off.

Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. I'm quick translating the swedish menus.
