SE K800i is the obvious option ... or maybe a K610i

Yeah! Go for the K800i! It's a lot better than the K610i.

Not sure what the situation's like in SA, but I'm sure you can sell the phone and get something else, it's the contract you'll be stuck with. You could cancel it early, but they'll sting you with a huge cancellation fee (which will probably be as much, if not more than the line rental you'd pay in that 24 months).
I got a W550i when I renewed my 12-month contract in December, and at the beginning of Feb I'd managed to get hold of a W800i, so the W550i was surplus to requirements so I sold it on in Feb. As long as you keep the contract, you can use whatever phone you want.

right sammy's given good advice there - not sure whether it's actually legal to sell a phone that's taken out under contract (its legally the operators still :S weird eh?)

You can only do a "upgrade" after about 22 months of your contract.
It's a pity that in SA we don't really have 12 month contracts.

It's just what I did here in the Dominican Republic. I've got a 12 months contract and I'm still on it for 7 more months to go. but I've already changed my original k300 phone, for a K700, a K750 and now a W810. It's a pitty you can't do that in your country, at least legally. Here if you keep paying for your contract, you can do with your phone whatever you want.
