EARNINGS PREVIEW: Sony Ericsson 2Q Pretax Pft Seen +83%
1132 GMT [Dow Jones] Sony Ericsson is expected Thursday at 0630 GMT to report an 83% rise in 2Q pretax profit of EUR159M versus EUR87M a year ago, an average poll of 24 analysts supplied by SME Direkt shows. Global market share remains static at around 6.5 - 6.8.

has a bigger market share in Western Europe and is supposed to be doing quite well in China.

Well SE doesn't focus on CDMA phones, so the market share may not be a great indidcator of SE's true use in GSM markets.

@shaliron.
I think it was number 3 in Europe after Nokia and Moto.
Nokia has the massive Indian market sewn up and Motorola dominates the American market so, if

cant break into these then its overall market share will stay the same.
Even if it done really well in Western Europe it would hardly make a dent in the global market share because of these huge markets.
However, it is still very successful as a company, as the statistics show.

another strong emerging market is Russia
I beileve if my memory on Mobile-review.com analyst report for Russia market...SE is still like number 5 or 6 in Russia....if they can boost their market
there plus market in USA.....their growth in market share
will be bigger.
I can see they are working on getting more phone into US as there's more
quad band phone which allow better nationwide coverage.
whoever can do well in china, india, russia and usa will have a strong market share....

For discussions sake, here are the market sizes (in subscribers):
38% Asia Pacific
19% Western Europe
12% Eastern Europe
11% Other Americas
10% USA/Canada
6% Africa
4% Middle East
As you can see, the US is a pretty small market, the europe market is 3 times bigger, and asia 4 times. All markets are growing fast except for USA/Canada and Western Europe, with Africa and Eastern Europe growing the fastest.
Regarding technologies,
77% GSM
13% CDMA
3.1% TDMA
2.2% W-CDMA
2% PDC
0.9% iDEN
0.3% Analog
So SE isn't missing out on much by ignoring CDMA

SE is a growing smart brand in young well educated good income people. Nokia is number 1 in Africa, India and Arabic regions with
not so high salary and education. Nokia is the leader of cheap phones. In India Nokia is selling phones with shopbus-style. But Motorola is coming...
