Does the system boot to windows? Or does it give a blue screen stop error? If it boots to windows, this might be a case of the sasser worm..

If u've added or deleted ne hardware recently it may cause the problem....uninstall then reinstall that driver(s) if this applies.

I'm with whizkid on this one, if it's windows XP without Service Pack 2 it could be caused by the sasser or msblast worms. PC's restarting themselves after windows starts up can also be caused by a faulty memory module. If it restarts before windows even loads up, it can be the sign of a faulty hard drive.

Perhaps an overheating CPU? Unlikely, but it certainly sounds more like a hardware issue!

If you haven't connected it to the net yet, then that leaves it most likely a hardware prob.

Also, when you reinstalled windows, have you put back all the progs and stuff you use yet, or did it start restarting even before you did that, ie: on a fresh install of windows?

If so, you definitely should look at hardware, and most likely cause is RAM. Pull RAM, all PCI cards, video card, then reseat everything, and see if problem persists.

It could be anything really, so a process of elimination is needed.

Restarts can be PSU related also - do you have another power supply you can try with for a few days?

Another possibility is power surges, faulty power strips or faulty earth. Change all power cables, double adpaters etc, and change to another wall outlet if possible. Remember I'm not saying I think that's what it is, just that because it's a possibility you have to eliminate it so you can move on to the next possibility. Eliminate the easy things first, then work up to the more difficult.

Restarts are most commonly power or memory related in my experience (but of course there are many other possibilites).
