Symbian phones
> Definition of Symbian Phones

This goes to all phone savvy members of our forum.Will someone out there explain to me what Symbian phones are? Are they the same as smart phones, hand held, PDA's etc, etc. What phones do we classify as Symbians? I need this so I can tell my students. I will appreciate an e mail from any member.

Symbian is the operating system that the phone uses. It is a multi-tasking operating system like Palm, Pocket PC and others. It runs on some Nokia, SE and other phones.
Symbian is only the operating system, the User Interface (UI) sits on top of the operating system.
Broadly speaking, on Nokia, the User Interface (UI) is called s60, on SE the UI is called UIQ (the latest version of UIQ is UIQ 3)
Nokia symbian phones are called series 60. SE symbian phones have been up to now the P series (P800, P900, P910 and P990), but you can add to that line up the M600 business phone, and the W950 walkman phone.

Smartphone is the term refers to mobile phone that has operating system so that such phone has the capabilities like PDA. The operating system for mobile phones such as Symbian, Windows Mobile, or Linux. So, the Symbian Phone is a mobile phone that operated by Symbian operating system.
In other side, there is PDA Phone, i.e., a PDA equipped with communication features that usually available on mobile phone. The operating system for PDA or PDA Phone such as Windows (Mobile, CE, Pocket PC), Palm, or Linux.
