I have been testing both the Belkin and EPoX USB Bluetooth Dongles for the past few days.

I am quite impressed with the EPoX offering as it seems very stable (as can be), while the Belkin using Tecom Drivers is flaky at best.

Another interesting note, the EPoX was about $12 less than the Belkin Dongle. I purchased it from Fry's Electronics in Dallas (outpost.com owner) for $39.95.

Anyone who is interested in hearing more about this adapter, just send a reply, and I'd glady post a longer review of both.

What software is exactly required and in what order should these required programs be installed? I'm very interested in connecting my T68i to my PC using the Epox BT dongle but I'd hate it if I were to find out that it would't work....

I am really interested in it too, maybe you could write a longer review here on the forum. I am here in the US because of an internship (in Los Angeles) and I wonder if I can buy it somewhere here or only over the internet.
Thanx

I would love to know how you got the Epox dongle to work. I tried it on my Dell laptop with Win2000 and it would see my T68i but no services would show up when I tried to recognize them in windows. Then, when I tried to make a call in Outlook, it would say that another program was using the bluetooth adaptor. Very frustrating! I took it back and tried another adaptor but I read on here that they all use the same drivers from the same manufacturer!

I just bid on a Socket Bluetooth CF card from eBay and I'm hoping that one is better.

Well, yes, you can purchase it in the US. If your in LA, then there should be a Fry's nearby. They have it for about $39.95. As a matter of fact, it was the only USB Dongle they carry at the moment.

To answer someone else's response... Yes, I believe all of the current USB Dongles use the same driver. However; some companies lock the driver to their device. I am not sure if EPoX locks it, but you can always try the Tecom version, as it appears to work with most devices. I did notice that the Tecom uses version 1.2.2.16 while EPoX has version 1.2.2.6 on their website. Maybe EPoX is just calling it 1.2.2.6 to shorten it, but who really knows.

Another reason, and to respond to someone else's comment, I was impressed with EPoX was their FAQ site specifically talks about T68i. Obviously, they have been doing some testing with the phone, and perhaps have one in their QA Lab.

You can read the FAQ at www.epox.com. I have tried to post the link, but for some weird reason it goes to a motherboard FAQ instead of the Bluetooth Dongle. Weird!

For me, the EPoX Dongle was just plug-n-play. I installed the drivers first using their setup.exe, rebooted my machine, installed the USB Dongle, and followed the steps in the FAQ. I am able to sync my phone with my PC with all the software I have tried. Including: XTNDConnect (available on Sony's website), TDK Mobile, and Mobile Agent. I have been able to send files to my phone using SendFile and Sony Ericsson Image Editor. All of the programs mentioned have run flawlessly.

I noticed that the EPoX Dongle does not reach nearly as far as the Belkin, but for my usage, that's fine. I don't really see a need to synchronize from the other end of my house. Futhermore; the stability and reliability offered by the EPoX is surely a benefit over Belkin. I am also somewhat of a cynic, believing that Tecom will eventually lock their driver to force people to purchase a different dongle (and in their case, hopefully a Tecom).

This all comes from someone who is a little EPoX bias. I have been using EPoX motherboards for a few years, and have really grown to love their products. They provide better than average tech support, and all of the products I have owned in the past seem to be high quality. Their motherboards are often highly rated, and hopefully, this USB Dongle will live up to their reputation.

Hope this helps!

I have one of the Epox dongles also using XP pro sp1.

It is great when it works but seems to regularly be able to reestablish a link to my T68i. The tell tail sign is the two monitor network tray icon with the rex cross through it. On disconnecting and reconnecting at least I can access it through explorer though after that my outlook XTDConnect stops working but after some fiddling and in some cases a reinstall al is okay.

So far I have found no way to transfer pictures from my phone to the PC and the only info I have managed to gather from anyone regarding this is to use the 3Com drivers and mess about with the config files to talk to my Epox dongle.

Can you cast any light on this.

Thanx

OK here is how you do it.

1. UNINSTALL the Epox Bluetooth software.

2. Download and install the TDK software (tdk1.2.2.15.zip) from: http://www.tdksys.com/support/drivers/range.asp?id=1

3. You may have to reinstall the USB driver for the dongle. Use the CD that was included.

4. Here is the important part!
Open regedit.exe
Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareWidcommBTConfigServic
es
Here there is a list of profiles supported by your PC
Find the one for 'Infomation Exchange'
Do this by looking in each folder.
For me, there were folders 0001 to 0007, and the one I was after was 0004. (You can tell because there is a value called 'Name', with data 'Information Exchange')
In this key, change the DWORD string 'AcceptOther' to hex value 1 - it is 0 by default.
Close regedit

5.
Make sure your devices are paired.
Do not open a serial connection.
Try sending from the phone...

Hope this works for you. It worked on my Epox Bluetooth dongle from Fry's.

It worked like a dream first time, I am totally impressed with the quality of the photos as well didn't expect them to come out that well.

Thanx again and have to agree once set up this dongle does rock and is excellent value for money.

Pretty stuck. Cant get the sync to work with XTND. After i install drivers and rebooting i can get my phone paired with the dongle fine. But then XTND does not understand anything. It just says "Trying to establish connection..." or something similar and times out.

I have tried to download latest versions of the softwares from both sonyericsson and epox websites.

Can someone who use Epox BT-DG02 and SonyEricsson T68i please make a detailed step-by-step list of necessary steps to perform (sonyericsson and epox clearly dont give a shit about it) to be able to sync the cell phone with outlook.

Thank you.

I have the same question as above...

The weird thing is... whenever I install Package 4, I don't have any problems.. everything works fine... I do some synchronization and stuff like that... but then, after a couple of restarts and everything (I think), it just stops working... None of the programs (MMS Composer, XTND Connect, etc.) will find the phone, while I do have everything set up right (I mean.. it worked before, but then it justs stops working).

What could it be???
