Hi

Anyone out there who has recently got a new K750I might find that Sony Ericsson has nicely upgraded the camera.

The way to tell is there is a piece of paper in the box telling you this ( as well as an updated pc suite cd rom ) & the fact that the zoom has been downgraded from the earlier K750Is

What this means is that you will lose any zoom function when the picture setting is on large ( you get a nice message saying zoom is not available when picture setting is set to large ) You only get 2 x zoom when the picture size is set to medium & only get the full 4 x zoom when the picture size is set to small.

Flashing the firmware doesn't fix the zoom issue either.

Ive had 2 x K750Is next to each other both running the same firmware & camera driver, The older phone has the full 4 x zoom on any picture size setting, The new K750I had the zoom ruined by Sony Ericsson.

So a great phone made worse by an upgrade from Sony Ericsson.

Well, I've only had my K750i for only a few hours and I can zoom 4X on the 2MP setting. And the funny thing is that I got it just yesterday. I don't know if it matters, but my phone has R1CA021 firmware with Camera Software Version at 5.3...

I'd consider that a feature, as digital zoom is an abomination upon man kind, and is absolutely useless.

That's weird. How can a later K750 has different specifications? Even the zoom is disabled. What f/w is that? R1CA021 ver.5.3 ? Or your phone is faulty?

Hi

The newer phone isnt faulty, Sony Ericsson have done something to the camera zoom.

The firmware on both K750Is was R1CA021 & the camera driver was version 5.3 on both.

On the newer phone there was a separate page inside the box explaining that Sony Ericsson had upgraded the pc suite software & also the camera.

This page mentioned on the smallest picture setting the 4 x zoom would be available.

On the medium picture setting you would only get 2.5 x zoom.

On the largest picture setting you would have no zoom at all.

When you try to zoom when the picture setting is on large you get the following on screen message " ZOOM IS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN LARGE PICTURE SIZE IS SELECTED "

Heres a scan of this information page found in the box with the new K750I

Digital Zoom is a waste of time. Take an ordinary picture and crop/scale it in Photoshop. EXACTLY the same result (well, actually you may get a better result in Photoshop with different filtering).

I cannot understand why some manufacturers try saying 5x zoom, 8x zoom, a million times zoom...

When you take a photo, you can zoom in and crop on the phone (in landscape view) for making a new wallpaper or something. Easier to do after the event, in my opinion. You'll also get a steadier photo than trying to cope with all those blown up pixels jiggling about!
