I'm an old user of the P series but now I don't see myself getting the 990. I don't need the wlan, camera, nor the video call features but I need the 3G bandwidth and CPU speed. I was deeply thinking of the M600 as a replacement for my P910 but I'm still undecided.
I kindly ask the actual owners of the M600 to point a few things that they enjoy most. It would be great to hear from former P910 owners, as they can provide a trustworthy comparison.

Hi,

I did not own a P910 (I had a Z800) but many of my collegues did so I had a lot of exposure to it.

I can say you will love the M600. Personally I am not too keen on the keyboard layout, but the screen is fantastic, I mainly use the touchscreen/jog dial anyway and it is lighter and thinner than the P910 (and my old Z800 or at least it feels that way).

3G is really nice. I have Telia in Sweden and when I connected my laptop via USB to the phone, I ran tptest to get 56kbit upstream and 347kbit down stream, more or less the max 3G speed possible (remember there is overhead in the radio interface & in the IP headers).

Surfing is a breeze, the Opera browser does an excellent job rendering.

Email works perfectly.

If WLAN and camera is not interesting, then the M600 is definately worth going for.

I hope this helps,

/Mike B.

@PIANOSSO, from what you have written it sounds like you're right not to choose the P990

at a minimum (forgetting the crappy camera in the P910), with the M600 you are getting at least the same but in a much more pleasing sized package.

The keyboard threw me at first but I now use that in preference to the virtual keypad and can type fairly quickly. It doesn't take long to adjust to it as its very well laid out.

The back under the jog dial is neatly placed for quick manouvering between the two but it is strange at first not having the usual red and green call and hangup buttons

obviously we are also limited by the available size of M2 memory sticks but then P910 is limited to 2gb anyway so the M600 is not that far behind

using the device you will feel fairly at home right away. Although its now UIQ3 it does share alot of commonality to UIQ2 in the menus.

In summary, at the end of the day, if you really feel you need to change then probably the form factor is going to be one of the most pleasing aspects of the change over.

Once the decision is made, the biggest question you wll have is probably... black or white!

It sounds good. It looks like the screen size is a little smaller than the P910's. I'm also kind of worried about the keypad. I use mostly the inside querty keypad on my P but I can't imagine how I'd manage not to misstape some words when writting fast.
I just know that the size is far more convenient than the P's.
Besides the communication stuff, I'm interested in entertainment. How's it with playing videos?
@masseur. At the end of the day, I'd go for black... Uhm, no.... wait... white'd be better. Ufff, tough decision!

for comparison

P910 has a 2.80" 208x320 resolution screen
M600 has a 2.60" 240x320 resolution screen
P990 has a 2.76" 240x320 resolution screen

so you lose .2" but gain slightly on resolution

admitedly I've only tried a couple of music videos so far but I have no issues with what I have seen

I found the M600 to be very slow at starting to play videos (full TV episode)...though I'm sure purchasing Smartmovie (not sure if it's out yet) would resolve this problem...

And yes, there is a bit of a mis-typing problem - having used it for a few weeks, it's still not the fastest way to type, but it's perfectly acceptable...

To me UIQ3 (on M600) appears to be a rather toy-phone-like interface, while UIQ2 (on P910 etc.) has a more professional PDA/computer-like appearance. For example, there is no menu bar on UIQ3. But I guess I'm quite alone with this opinion.

Yeah, I saw some videos by mobileburn's review of M600 and I also thought the menu is quite fancy. I admit I'd have liked a classic or at least a bussiness style.
Also, it seemed to me that operating speed was unexpectely low when moving thru menu or opening apps. Perhaps it's because of the fancy appearance which requires time for rendering... Just my thoughts.
I must say that my first concern is regreting the purchase of the M for missing the P's fuctionality (like saying: it was easier/possible with my P...)

I have both the P900 and the P910 and have recently shifted to the M600 as my primary phone.

Hardware:
The form factor of the M600 is simply amazing, sure it doesn't have the camera but i can live with it keeping in mind the camera quality of the P series. wifi i don't need and it's not there in the P910 anyway. I have gotten used to the keyboard but personally speaking i don't know why they can't have T9 for writing emails and docs. I like the fact that it's faster to enter unique words but i end up having to use two hands everytime for text entry . Battery life is way better on the M600, it's twice the life that the P990 used to give me.

OS
The OS is definitely more aesthetic, it has the bells and whistles that appeal to users. Aesthetics however bring with them an associated problem: the OS in the M600 is slower. The p910's speed surprises me every time i need to look something up on it. If only there were a way to disable the animations, maybe that would improve speed. Having said that the guys at SE have constantly been improving speed with each update.

Multitasking is easier in the M600 but keep in mind many of us are having performance restarts. There are some bugs which need ironing out and Sony have been pretty good with the frequency of updates.

There aren't many software titles right now but their numbers will definitely grow.

Bling:
Now this is a factor that not many people admit to but when the P990i or even the W950 come out the M600 won't be the most expensive phone that SE make and that might be problem with some people.

My overall feelings are pretty mixed, sometimes I like it sometimes I don't, form factor & the fact that it's a new phone are a plus but i get bugged at times with the keyboard.
