Purchased games can also be backed up without FAR, just by navigating through the MSDP via My Computer.

you have to move them to the phone first (games are installed on phone by default).

Then you can copy to computer and reinstall if you want to restore the game.

I tried the not-using-FAR method.

I moved the java app/game to external memory, but I don't see .jar file in my memory card using Explorer...

What did I miss?

You NEED FAR.
The mobile phone blocks direct-access to the jar and jad files (when installed on a unpatched phone).
Only with the use of a patch (trough FAR) you can make your phone to save to your memory stick (without blocking access of any kind). I did that... my games are now saved in a directory called "/AMS" on my memory stick.
