Just my opinion having had a few in the workshop...
They're fine when they're working ok but a nightmare when they go wrong, especially as very often if you got one second hand they don't come with an external drive.
As for usage, they're fine for surfing and email but I wouldn't fancy typing a lengthy document on one or working with a large spreadsheet, mostly due to the small screen and relatively small keyboard.
Price wise, I've seen them start at about £200 going up to £600 second hand depending upon the condition and accessories.
Big thing to watch out for with these beasties is dodgy hard drives. Because they're so small, people have a habit of accidentally dropping them which doesn't do the hard drive much good! Luckily, new drives are quite easy to fit but it's still a bit of a nightmare.

ummm...ok...i got cash to spend...want a laptop...welll need two...
one for my bro, one for me...
my one...prefer fast, wifi, bit of memory, not much, 12" ish would do...just for general work, browsing net...not much...no hard-tech stuff...hehe...ill look into massuers suggestion
