Whenever my Mac intefaces with my phone over
the phone asks if I should grant access (softkeys become Yes & No). None of my prior
phones did this. Is there a way to disable this rather annoying "feature" (for lack of a better word)?

it's one of the options in bluetooth ....
Try settings, bluetooth, my devices, "select the one !!", more then allow
connection - that should give you always ask or always allow.
