> M600i Jog Dial Problem
Bookmark topic
Hi All. Has anyone had any problems with the jog dial on the M600i?
Mine broke a couple of weeks ago. I was just rolling it down when the cursor stopped. Odd, thought I and looked at the jog dial which had broken off and slipped inside the casing!!
I spoke to Sony Ericsson who told me send it to their repair centre at Kuehne + Nagel. Imagine my surprise when I received a letter from them telling me "This type of repair is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty", and there would be a £47 charge to repair the phone!!!
I contacted customer services who escalated the problem and today told me they were standing by the repair charge as ‘excessive’ force had been used on the jog dial. I assured them that this was not the case, which it wasn’t but they were having none of it. The jog dial literally rolled off under my thumb using the same force as I had always used.
Anyway, the moral is, all M600 users beware. Don’t press your jog dial 'too' hard, if it comes off Sony Ericsson will blame you for abusing their hardware.
I am not happy.

Ouch, i can imagine it would be easily broken for me as i got quite a big thumb so i can't really know if it's the jog i'm pressing on or the "protector" sitting above it

I can suggest you go on with a lawyer; there is no matter they will be permitted by european law to avoid to respect guaranty with such an answer

I would happily go and see a lawyer, only problem will be it's my word against theirs. I can't prove I wasn't 'heavy handed' with the phone

If it's not been more than 6 months since you bought the phone (obviously it hasn't) it should be up to the seller to prove that what they say is correct. If they can't prove anything, and it's a word against word situation, you shoulld be in the right. At least this is how it is in Sweden, and that is because of an EU directive (so it should be the same in Britain).
