I have a weird issue with my new w810i phone, one which is bugging me considerably. The problem lies in moving Java files to and from the memory card I have installed (2GB Sony MS Pro Duo). When I started using my phone I had no trouble whatsoever, but once the application count went to about 50 the phone suddenly failed while moving a game to the card. As I thought this just was a fluke I tried moving another game over, but that failed as well. When I looked at the internal memory the games were no longer present there, so I took a look at the memory card. Surely the game's names were in the list, but the location indicator showed a white memory card icon with a red line across it. Those entries could not be started nor moved back, they were simply 'dead'. The real surprise came when I browsed further down the list of games that were moved over earlier (which had worked on the card), two of those were 'killed' as well and could not be started nor moved. As I wanted to be 100% sure it was the failed moves that ruined the older moved files, I tried with a 3rd game from the internal memory, which also failed and 'killed' another entry on the memory stick.
This was before the R4DB005 upgrade. So I proceeded to upgrade the phone, in the hopes that this issue would be fixed. But alas, no such luck - the phone still does the exact same thing and it is really quite random how many games/applications I can move before the problem appears.
The weird part I've noticed lately is that certain items that cannot be moved can still be started - even if it is missing its icon, which proves that it isn't really a hardware MS interface error (which I initially suspected), but a major software issue. The really bad part is that I've lost about $40-50 because of this.
I can take photos and play music on the phone without any problems, as well as view images I've converted and copied from my PC (using a card reader). I have run testing software on the card as well, just to be certain that the card doesn't contain any bad locations; I've even tried with a different card. So I know it isn't the card's fault.
Has anyone else experienced this? If there's more people than me who have this problem then I'll just sit tight and wait for a software upgrade that'll hopefully fix this. Otherwise I'll have to return the phone - and lose even more money on the software I can't backup from it.
On a side-note I've read the thread on W800i corruption. My phone is experiencing some of the same problems with moving many files at once over the cable, so I usually do copy procedures on my card reader. It is especially java files that it doesn't want to copy in greater amounts to the 'other' folder, the Disc2Phone software has yet to fail.
I'll appreciate any and all replies to this thread, I just need to know if it's worth returning the phone for a replacement or if that serves no purpose towards fixing this issue.

Sounds to me like you've messed up the phone firmware itself; some fluke of nature. But, dang, 50 applications? That's quite a lot. I understand that the phone should have been designed to accomodate as much as your card supports (in this case, 2GB), but given the technology we have so far, i would not bet $50 worth of applications on such a small phone that's not even Symbian.
I've had 2 other
phones that I ended up wiping out the English T9 dictionary for reasons I did not/still do not understand, but from those experiences I've learned that phones are not the most stable things we have at this time and age.
You can probably make an argument that the phone should not have freaked at 50 apps on a 2GB card (the
specs website say it supports up to 2GB cards-which constitutes "operating within manufacturer-specified situations"), but really, that is being too optimistic.
I say don't sweat any more than you have; if you want a working phone, get it completely flash-erased (I can forsee you ruining even more things down the road if you keep it as it is right now) and never again attempt installing that many apps. With regards to your $50 worth of applications, contact their respective vendors and they should have some form of premise where they let you re-download without paying again (every reputable software vendor should)
Stick to using the 2GB worth of space for MP3s

What I find most weird is the fact that the phone doesn't have any form of security measures towards this, it just tries to blindly move files and if it fails just says it failed and won't let you revert the changes. I think that preventative measures should be a minimum considering the files you move on a phone like this in most cases has cost you money to begin with, like extra programs, games, special themes/ringtones etc. I find it totally unacceptable to ignore users need for investment protection.

Oh and by the way, I think I forgot to mention this is the initial post; the first problems occurred when moving from the internal memory to the storage card, not vice versa. I can't see how the firmware can get messed up when moving from the phone's internal memory to storage, -unless- the phone has an index in its internal memory which it updates when moving files over. However, that would cause problems by using more than one card in the phone regularly, so I don't think that's the case.

Yes, all the files are installed, meaning they either reside in games or programs folders. As far as I can recall, every program had a key beside them; only certain ringtones I have downloaded do not have a key, everything else has. The phone does not have a problem with installing new software, either from wap-sites or from the 'other' folder. I have been able to move -one- program back to the phone's memory by powercycling and not starting it beforehand, but the rest still can't be moved.

Sounds like what can happen if you have a fake memory card. Some people who sell fake cards take a lower capacity flash (like 1GB or something) then hack the card so that it reports a higher capacity (like 2GB). When the device tries to write beyond that point, there is no real memory to write to, so the file disappears into nirvana. Sometimes the file index still gets updated so the device thinks the file is there, but isn't.
If you have any doubts at all about the authenticity of your MS, try an authentic card bought at retail.

here for the discussion. there's a link in the sony website where you can check if the stick you're using is the real thing. if it wont validate, that just might be the problem

Then do like this , try first : Set permissions for the programs (so you can copy/move them) if you can't , try plug you're fone via USB / Infrared / Bluetooth , and start FILE MANAGER , and move them soo ...
Aniways , i think the permission setting is the problem , the phone blocks somehow that the files to be copied / moved .
