> M600i freezes
Bookmark topic
I just bought one today while i was visiting Singapore.
Set it up and got it running before i got on the plane. seemed to go ok.
When i got off the plane and power it on.. it freezes at the splash screen. no way to do a master reset.. sometime the screen saver starts.. but the only way to turn off is to remove the battery.
What an absolute piece of crap? of course there is no local warranty.
Any tips on how i can reset would be appreciated.

hmm....do you mind telling us how much you payed for it? i believe there is fake phones just like other things, made over in the east :S (look i don't want to offend anyone....i'm not naming countries, or saying anywhere is the 'middle east' or something....erm.....i dunno why but...yeh) - so if it was an unbelievably low price then yeh - hard luck mate
BUT - either way....try this - download seus ((S)ony (E)ricsson (U)pdate (S)ervice), and then try to update using whatever cable was included with your m600i.
also, another thing that i am assuming at the moment (help guys!) - is that the m600i is a quad-band gsm / umts phone only?

- otherwise is there any chance there is a network band (i.e not the normal 900mhz/1800mhz or our normal 3g (wait....china doesn't have ANY 3g yet, does it?)
the very, last thing i may ask - is what network are you on? - contract/pay-as-you-go (that shouldn't make any difference though

- try to try as many different sim cards etc in the phone
while writing this, i've had a thought...that the reason it may not work is you do not have a usim (3g enabled sim card), so therefore you were able to use the local roaming network in china, but once you got back to britain???(i assume), you couldn't log on to the network when you turned the phone on because it wasn't happy letting an m600i without a usim in :S (right....someone will know what i am going on about

)

i'm guessing it is older stock and has older firmware on it? you can get the version you have by clicking the 'More' button in the standby screen, then 'Status'. Post the version beside phone, something like CXC162037 R4A002. you probably have R1A..... update it using the online service for free.
Mines been great since I did.

thanks for the fast reply.. I paid the going price.. about S$700 it was in a sealed box.. and had a seal on the bag for the phone.. so i think its for real.
I am using a Vodafone NZ prepay 3G sim that was working fine in my Nokia E61 before.
I was working ok in Singapore.. I set the phone up and sent and received some txts.
thanks floatlite,.. unfortunately it freezes at the spalsh screen so i cannot do anything at all with the phone.. its just a very expensive display that will show the splash screen and thats all...
I got off the plane in Bangkok today and shes frozen solid.
I tried to load the update softarew.. but it fails because it cannot detect the phone.
I can only try some other sim cards.. but am very disapointed

I bought my M600 in the UK and it worked fine for about a week and since then I have had exactly the same problem - freezing all the time. I cannot get it to do anything.
I also have to take out the battery and replace it to re boot.
So I have taken it back but they want to test it themselves. I am worried they wont have the same problem and wont take it back!

for one, singapore is not in china. hahaha.
did u buy the phone from carrefour? they have worldwide warrenty i think.
mine was from carrefour in singapore, n i was in bangkok 2 sundays ago. it was working fine. even if ur sim (hence network) is not supported, e phone will still turn on correctly into flight mode. sorry i cant offer any constructive suggestions. maybe u can try removing the battery, charge it using a desktop charger, n reinsert n start the m600 on a full battery, n take out the sim n memory card n see if it comes on ok.

I bought the phone from the Sony Ericsson shop in the basement of Singapore Plaza.
Anyway I have it working now...I tried the sim from my Data card,. and hey presto it works...I changed the startup back so that it would ask about using flight mode,.. and it now works with my usual sim card.. weird..
I cannot get the PC Suite software to detect the phone using either a USB cable or bluetooth on my Laptop.. so am still a bit frustrated with this phone.
Although I like the size & predictive text input on this phone,.. I prefer my Nokia E61.. its faster, and of course the full keyboard is easier to use just not a convenient size will wait and try the Motorola Q i think WM seems to be faster and more stable than these symbian phones??
Thanks for all the suggestions and help guys
