> Why the U.S don't get the text message
Bookmark topic
Texting is insanely here in the U.K and europe, but practically nonexistent in the United States.
Consider this anomaly: Ecuador, with a per capita GDP of $4,300, has the United States beat when it comes to a critical wireless technology. Americans may be 10 times as wealthy, but Ecuadorians send four times as many text messages.

They will catch on eventually.
Hopefully with not too much of a commercial slant on it.
If I received a text message from a friend, but first had to scroll through an advert in order to read it, that would drive me up the wall.

That's cuz they r not so advanced in wireless technology. They've devolped so many technologies 20 years ago that they still those in place making money (cdma, tdma, amps, land telephony). These r some of the reasons.

don't they just use voip and ptush to talk etc? Their charges are also lower then ours which allows them to spend the smae amount on a call as they would in a text

not really dj boyi, it comes with the plan...i used to pay $35 for 1200 rush hour minutes, free night minutes (from 9 pm to 9am..its free)and free 500 sms. i always use about 40 of the 500, i only text when im in lectures...thats why text is not popular.

All my friends and I use text messaging constantly. At only $4.99 a month for 400 messages it has become an ideal way to stay in touch when a phone call is just you know, too personal. Ha!

Well, the Westerners r waaay too cool in relations with other ppl in general,so when calling is too personal, they text. The other keeps his distance by replying rather than calling-ppl avoid direct contact. This would never happen in Eastern Europe for examplE.I just pick up the phone and call back!Anyway, that's a theory of mine based on what i've seen in Germany and France while living there :D
