Is it? How great is it anyway? Any technical measurement or something?

i don't know about the measurements but xenon is simply the element used for the bulb's filament, just like in xenon headlamps on cars as opposed to halogen.

Xenon is a chemical element (look it up in a periodical table - it has the symbol Xe).

A Xenon flash is a tube filled with Xenon, and when the flash is triggered, electricity is sent through the Xenon so it lights up.

You can compare it to Neon - Neon is also a chemical element, which is also used for lighting.
