Hi, i just got my k800i yesterday (yay) and after spending ages working out how it works (not really a tech guy) tried to put some music on my phone, it works with nom-itunes music if i put it in phone mode and then use the file manager, but with itunes music that is "protected" i seem to be unable to play them on my phone, so i thought maybe if i ripped them onto my phone through d2p it would work so i reconnected my phone and entered file mode, but in d2p it says that i have no phone connected, so does the PC Suite and also my computer does not recognise there to be a device (my phone) connected, ive looked through these forums and the manual and made sure ive installed all the drivers, though i was surprised there wasnt one for a portable memory device, i was just wondering whether any of you guys had come across this problem and/or knew a solution

thanks in advance

James

Hello James,

The short answer is: protected iTunes music can not be played on your phone because they are proteted and can only be played back on an iPod. However, you can get around this by burning the tracks to a blank CD and then import them through Disk2Phone or whatever method you want to use to get them on the phone.

ahh excellent thanks for the tip, but any ideas on why my phone isn't recognised by my computer when it's in file transfer mode (the mode it needs to be in for d2p right?)

Not sure. I use a Mac and we have a much better application to transfer music. Sorry.

Hi all,

felt compelled to register with this forum after seeing similar problems to what i had.

For me, phone mode worked fine, but whenever I connected to file transfer it cut out and wouldn't find my phone or memory stick, so here is what I did. I kept all the previously installed things (except disc2phone, it looks horrific to use)

1. Plug in phone on phone mode
2. Insert CD, holding shift to stop autostart
3. switch phone to "file transfer mode", wait for it to tell you not to remove USB cable
4. Go to device manager (right click my computer, hardware tab, device manager) you should see some question marks
5. right click question mark, click "update driver" then read from the cd. do this for all question marks

no problems for me anymore

hope that helps

Have you tryed using a card reader, solves many problems. There pretty cheap and you can transfer all data from card to phone and vice cersa.

but that means paying extra for something that the phone does itself!

True, I dont have the K800i (yet) so I cant really help you with this issue, but card readers are dead cheap, if your lucky no more than 5 pounds. It really does solve many problems and the disk-to-phone software is crap to be honest and many SE users dont bother using it.

yeah, luckily all my problems are sorted now. I do need to get a memory stick reader though. I used to have the K750i and, sony being sony, that means I had to get a new memory stick but i have the pro duo adapter thankfully.

my only issue with the phone is that you can't use the flash as a torch anymore!

Lol I do that now with my W800i and my old K750i. Yeh card readers are great and they solve many of these connecting problems. The K800 has many bugs at the moment and Im hoping by the time I get mine the new firmware has solved most of these problems.
