Apparantly Terrorists planned to use iPods to blow up airplanes headed to the US from the UK. The plotters were to carry a British version of Gatorade mix it with a gel like substance to make an explosive and then trigger it using an iPod or mobile phone.

all you need is a source of energy (preferably electric) to set off any explosive. you could have used anything from a cell phone to a watch for the purpose

Quite true though, although the attacks were thwarted, the inconvenience and delays caused mean they've had a kind of 'victory'.

I'm going away at the end of September and I'm not looking forward to putting things like my phone and a pair of binoculars (for birdwatching and seawatching, you dirty gits!

) into my main baggage to be kicked about by baggage handlers and get broken, or in the case of the bins possibly get knocked out of collimation (alignment leaving a double picture)

CNN and several other media outlets reported the devices as being only some sort of .mp3 player not an iPod.
