Any insiders here know if SE has any plans to change their charger connectors for the better anytime soon?

I'm sure most SE users have experienced this after a few months use of their mobiles.

Step 1. Plug in charger to phone.

Step 2. Doesn't show charging status.

Step 3. Wriggle/push/pull the charging cable trying to get the right tension so it makes good contact.

Step 4. Check back 10 mins later or slightly nudge the phone, contact of charging cable may have come loose again.

The worse part is u have to press a key just to check the screen status to see if it's charging cos even tho physically the connector may be tight on the phone, the contacts may not be good.
Other phone companies, with the acception of certain Moto chargers, don't have such a basic usability issue.

I have been a user of SE phones since T610, my last SE was K750.
I have gotten tired of this trivial yet easily fixed issue which has been ignored by SE engineers.

Too many times have I left my phone to charge, just to find out it stopped charging half way cos of loose connector. End up with an uncharged phone for the day, really bad stuff if u have a busy day ahead.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I've never encountered this problem myself. I can see where you're coming from and maybe SE should make a more durable charging port (I'm not sure about how often this occurs though), considering that the charing port is one of the most commonly used things on the phone. I do like the Nokia ones in this regard.

I've only ever had that problem on my nokia 3220, my k750i has never had the problem. Have you tried spraying some contact cleaner on the phone/charger contacts? I seriously dont understand how there can be a problem with the conection between charger and phone. Maybe its a broken/intermittent connection in the charge connector This message was posted from a K750

They just did, from the old two prong to the new fast port that includes the charging pins.

Yes, my issue includes that one too. The problem is with the contacts, which remains the same.

The problem is with the small surface area of the contact coupled with the fact that its spring loaded.

Look at your SE charging contacts, on the phone itself are 2 contact plates and on the charging cable there are 2 spring loaded contacts. Of which only the thin edge makes actual contact with the phone's port.

It's simple enough, intead of having plastic progs on the sides which hold the connector in place and additional spring loaded contact in between, the progs themselves should be metal and serve as the charging contact points.

Benefits are 2 fold.
Metal is stronger than plastic.
This will also ensure that when have a secure physical connection, it automatically serves as assurance that there is also good contact, u don't have to worry. This is how Nokia chargers are, not to mention they have much wider contact surface area, so accidentally nudging or bumbing the phone like when u are driving using a car charger for example.

I have used T610, K500, K750. Clean contacts? Definitely, was one of the first things i did. All have the same problem.

I tend to agree and have long been suggesting that SE adopt the mini-usb port. Its a more solid connection and standard across all windows mobile phones as well as some motorola and others too

I have never experienced any kind of problems concerning the charger connectors on any Ericsson or Sony Ericsson phone.

I might be the exception that proves the rule.

@masseur k600 has got mini usb adaptor, z1010 aswell, but imo its pointless, cos with the "normal" usb cable i have the same result, so whats the real advantage of a different usb port?

Have you ever ripped out the charger connector from you phone by mistake. The SE connector on phone will almost never break. Nokia - snap, Mini USB - snap, etc, etc. A bloody good design as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah you do have a connection problem once in a while. But clean the contacts, and everything keeps working ok.

yeah I know about those, and the V800 I had when it first came out also had mini-USB, but these are in addition to the standard connector at the bottom and I could not charge the phone using the mini-USB, and that is the topic of this thread

you ask what is the point? well the point of this thread is suggesting a more reliable connector and Ericsson and SE connectors have been renowned for problems including oxidation and corrosion and the suggestion here is to change to something more reliable
