Hello people,

My computer restarts every time I try to download, as soon as the download box appears n I click either save or open the computer restarts rightaway, an error message also pop saying 'Server was reset'

I currentlly have avg anti-virus installed which doesnt seem to work and I'm also unable to uninstall or re-install it. My firewall is turned off and when I click to enable firewall (windows firewall) I get a message saying:
"Due to unidentified problem, Windows cannot display windows firewall settings"

It is definately not a spyware or registry problem as I have run both tests and I cant exactly figure out what else it could be, every thing is fine as long as I dont download anything.

Any help will be much appriciated.

Kind Regards

I know you say that it's not a registry issue but it almost certainly is. Those registry checker apps are largely useless!

Sounds like damage caused by a virus / spyware infection that has happened at some point in the past. It might be worth trying a system restore point, but my advice would be to back up your personal data and reinstall windows, I'm afraid

You could also try a repair reinstall first, it sometimes works

I have tried syste restore but the problem still presists. I dont even have a p2p software installed so I could get some sort of anti-virus program through there.

It's an odd problem and I cant find much help over the net either.

id reinstall windows over your current one, or boot in safe mode and rescan with viruses, just make sure avg is the most up to date

It seems a problem with registry, I have registry mechanic installed. When i run a scan the computer restarts before i thought it was only when I tried to download.

Its seems like some sort of new virus and its getting quite annoying. I've acquired help from AOL about 4 times and their help has been useless.

I've tried to run the registry mechanic through safe mode but the computer still shuts down. I'm trying not to reinstall my windows as I have alot of work to back-up and I only have 1gig usb to back it up all on.
