Hey everyone, here is the situation we have at home:

We are currently with BT for the house phone and my grandad pays around £16 a month for line rental etc etc. We are with pipex for broadband and i pay around £22 a month.

Basically my grandad wants to change over to be able to get free/cheaper phone calls and was thinking of talktalk. My pipex contract is up in October and i want to move somewere else were i can get better speeds at a cheaper price.

Is it better to get the both on one package or to get them separately? I am confused as to what to do? Can you go separately with certain companies or not or do you have to buy both together?

I would like the fastest broadband with no download limits, has to be 2mb or more and my grandad would like free/cheap calls. He doesn't mind switching to cable either.

HELP!

Cable is often the best for free calls, for example NTL / Telewest do a number of packages offering free landline calls:

I haven't checked, but I think you can get phone with free weekend landline calls, 2Meg broadband and the basic TV package for around £30 per month. If you don't want the TV, you might be able to haggle faster broadband instead or a better talk package instead.

Yeah i saw that i am not sure what to do, it is so much hassle changing the phone i think it is pointless, is talktalk any good?

ARG!!!!

I think the maximum speed i can get for the net is 2mb over here which is a pain. I do not know what to do at all it is so confusing.

Cable's definitely the best for fast broadband. I've heard quite a few horror stories about talktalk, apparently many more people have applied for it than CPW planed for, resulting in very long delays between customers signing up and actually getting their lines. Some people have been waiting for two months now!

If you have a network offering free gpsr there, then get a HSDPA data card its 1.8MB per second and will be the cheapest!

Cool cable seems like a good choice, i don't like the idea of talktalk so will try and put them off that.

One other thing i wanted to ask is say i signed up to one with digital tv, would i get that on every tv in the house or just the main one?

I know that sounds like a stupid question but we have 4 tv's in our house and it would be stupid signing up if only one could use it.

Like with sky if you want it on more than one tv you have to pay extra right?

Thanks for te advice.

Looks like it is just the broadband and phone package then, the hunt begins!

Thanks!

hey

i use the £30 3set ntl tv internet phone etc.

the internet/phone obviously fine, but Tv =

its basically freeview, but with a few extra channels like sky one. We had cable and internet and it cost us about £25 a month, so we thought it was worth paying £5 extra for TV. Id say its worth about £5 a month.

Get some cheap digital tv recievers, thats what we do, we have about 8 TV's!

AH! That is rather crap then i can live without tv anyway won't have time to watch much in uni anyway.

So i guess i will just go for the calls and broadband then, ntl looks the most promising at the moment i think.

If people see anything better let me know.

Cheers
