As some of you may know, I have been working on a w550i mod, I wanted all the features of my w550i but I was getting sick of the swivel mechanism, so I decided to try and make it into a slider. To do this, I combined the w550i housing with the d500 slide part, the result is not perfect, but for a first time attempt its good enough for me.
Here are some pictures of my truly unique phone, including some inside shots.

As I said the result is not perfect, during construction I had several problems with superglue jamming the slider mechanism. Also I cut the back plate of the phone slightly to big which means its a bit wobbly. You will see in the pictures that there is some damage above the keypad, this is superglue for you (seems to be able to run up slopes).
The biggest problem is the fact that the camera screen is now inverted, plus the fact that the opening mechanism magnet sensor is not inline. Im working to try and fix this, however there is a lack of room on the phone now due to the slider mechanism.

I must say, a job well done! Must have been extremely difficult to convert something like that. Obviously it's not perfect, but hey, I couldn't do any better and for a home made job, it's hard to make it much better.

thanks guys, it was more just to see if it was possible, i didnt think it would work out as well as it has, the d500 slider is the perfect size too. the slide is still a bit stiff due to the glue inside it, il try cleaning that out with some acetone and then apply some wd40 then I should have a pretty neat phone.

I heard about the glue problems, glad you managed to sort it out. Does the phone recognise when it's slide in/out, i.e. knows when it's open or closed still, or is this what the magnet will sort once it's been resited?

At the moment the phone thinks its opened all the time, this is because I have removed the magnet. I need to place the magnet at the bottom of the phone now, the end with the loop, that will mean that it operates correctly, however theres not enough room for this, so I might have to settle for making the phone think it is closed all the time. This would be easier as I could put the magnet right on top of the sensor. But until I find a stronger smaller magnet then Im stumped on this one...

The only thing is would the keypad fail to work if the phone thinks it's closed? I imagine the keypad wouldn't light up either, though this is just a minor thing!
