Just dug out my old friend the P900 to use as my phone for work. Now should I get it flashed to a P905 or keep it as it is?
I will be using it for calls playing mp3s and possible route mapping software like tomtom so having 1Gb of memory would be useful.
I have heard about the problems of running out of ram so is it going to drive me mad restarting all the time or will it be ok (restarting a little would be ok).
I will be upgrading one day but you know whats its like.........cash!!
Any opinions would be really useful thanks.

I had my P900 flashed to a P905 for the main purpose of running TomTom.
As you probably are aware the P900 was incompatible with Pro Duo cards and the upgrade got around this hurdle, i happily used both a 1 gig and a 2gig in my P905.
As to regarding running TomTom on it, it worked fine as long as you switched the phone off first and gave it a restart, and sometimes there was an issue if you had a route already planned and you were starting it for the first time and TomTom was also searching for the gps reciever it would freeze.
On the whole it was money well spent (i had it done at Above Connections for £25 including debrand) and there are quite a few software changes after the upgrade which are handy.
There was also an issue regarding Bluetooth headsets reported on some forums (the Bluetooth firmware is unchanged i think after the upgrade as the Bluetooth hardware is different on a P910) ,apparently some headsets would not work at all, although mine worked exactly the same as before.
Just one point though and that is that the P900 or P905 only supports one Bluetooth connection at a time, so no gps reciever and headset at same time.
The P910 supports at least two.

Hope this helps in some way!!!

Thanks for that everyone. I think I will go for it. I can handle a restart before using an app. Glad to hear from people who have lived with the P905 for a while.

I also had my P900 turned into the P905 and although it works fine apart from the relavtively low memory as reported by the others, I have since sold it and bough a real P910i

I must say that is the best thing I've done - productivity wise the extra memory, both for storing and running apps really makes a difference.

No more restarting the phone to run a program, no more using Sman all the time to flush memory - and I have enough room on the C:drive (64MB) to store almost all my apps (except TomTom), keeping my 2GB MS DUO free to hold all my music and videos - oh, and I use the thumb keyboard quite a lot too.

So although the P905 worked OK, I have not one second regretted that I spend a bit more to get a real P910.

Just my 2cents.

cheers
Peter
