I'm standing up and admitting it - I'm addicted to Ebay!

It wasn't really a problem whilst I was living with my mum, but now I have a house, mortagage and all the associated outgoings it has become a problem. I've been going up to, and last month over my overdraft limit, and part of the problem was me buying stuff off Ebay! Mostly phones, but also believe it or not binoculars (Been getting into birding more!), and have a good 7 pairs!

Is there help for people addicted to Ebay, and if so, where? Think I'll also be giving up the fags at the end of the month too, simply can't afford to keep smoking (and giving myself cancer too!).

Think I need to get myself away from Ebay as much as possible, I seem to have little self-control when it comes to 'bargains' on there, though at least I do sell things as well. Problem is, once I have sold stuff, what I should do is transfer any money in my Paypal account to my bank account, but temptation gets the better of me and I end up buying another phone, or something like another pair of binoculars (I seem to have a weakness for secondhand Carl Zeiss bins!).

Anyone else in a similar situation to me, buying more than they should be on there?

I buy and sell a lot of stuff on ebay, but I only tend to buy stuff that I need or that'll make good presents/gifts. Everytime I sell stuff, I pay off the listing fees and it goes straight to my bank account

That said when I first introduced ebay to my mum she bought loads of antiques (she loves antiques anyway), but she would sit there for hours looking at all sorts of antique dressers and china. Her new addiction is french property

Firstly their is a medical term for that type of addiction and its called \"Oniomania\" which is a recognised problem associated with compulsive shoppers.

believe it or not medication is recommended in extreme cases but i don't think you've reached that stage yet.

general precautions to take to avoid buying things that you don't need are:

Insulate yourself from subliminal or not so subliminal messages... be aware that when you're told that you will be more beautiful, acceptable, secure or powerful when you buy their product, remember all the seller wants is your money.

most importantly, avoiding temptation, make your funds difficult to access or by distracting yourself with another activity when there is an impulse to shop.

smoking however is a lot easier to quit in comparison.

I'm nearly at my overdraft limit of £300 at the mo, am just about to do a bit of listing, do some more selling instead of buying!

My problem often is I do too much buying, I get some money from sales, get some more stuff, even when that runs out I end up buying more stuff so it comes out of my bank account. I can be stupid sometimes!

I don't think I'm buying stuff to look 'cool' or anything like that, it could be something stupid like looking forward to getting all those nice parcels, and that good feeling when you fix a phone and it works great. Problem is I then end up keeping the phone rather than selling it on!

I know what you mean i get a buzz when i get stuff in the post lol, i wouldn't worry too much you not the only one believe me. Least you actually sell stuff on there.

I only buy things which is alot worse, maybe i should get selling but it is so expensive. By the time you have sold stuff and then all the listing fees it just isn't worth it really.

Maybe you could lower your overdraft at the bank and that will stop the temptation a little. Or find another hobbie which you can concentrate on so you are not as tempted to spend.

I had a £1000 overdraft and i reduced it to £250 so i would not go into it, banks are terrible. I have £250 on my credit card to pay and they just increased the limit on it because i am not using it, from £2500 up to £3500, i am only 21 lol.

DAMN THE BANK!!!

I must admit ebay does tempt a lot of people, I know a few!! I have a look on there for bags, but the phones do quite well out of our house!!!
