Read this in the paper (though I can't remember all of it):

Motorola is introducing a new method of personalizing your phones, by tattooing it! Motorola plans to introduce tatooing various predesigned designs or personal messages. They'll use laser etching or laser ink (can't remmeber) to etch designs into the phone.

Looks pretty cool to me! Even if it is Motorola only.

Pretty common in China and Japan.

You have little stalls that will spray paint and coat whatever you want.

I looked on the motorola and it didn't mention laser etching. It looked like a skin you put on the phone that can be peeled off and changed over to suit your mood?

Here's the original article from the paper:
Quote:
Having shed its reputation for dowdy design with the hugely popular RAZR, Motorola In. has now opted for tattoos.
Just in time for Christmas, the Schaumburg technology company will begin selling phones with laser-etched tattoos design by master tattoo artist Ami James from Miami Ink, the hit US networke reality show about people bring tattooed in a Miami shop.
Motorola executives said the tattoo idea came out of brainstorming sessions on how Motorola could extend the success of the ultra-slim RAZR. The RAZR not only broke sales records, but also traditional black and sliver colour lines, also being sold in non traditional pick, blue and gold.
im Wicks, Motorola vice-president for consumer experience design, said for the past year, Motorola had been using machines to etch people's names of catchphrases onto the battery doors on the RAZRs at a trade show.
A gil who wanted a RAZR had the following etched on her mother's phone: "Mum, can I please have a RAZR."
Wicks said the push made the RAZR attractive to new groups in new ways and the etching "intersected in a nice way."
Tattoos may once have been considered appropriate only for sailors and gang members, but today many young people and fashionistas consider them the ultimate personal statement.
A US poll in 2003 estimated the 36% of people aged 25-29 were tattooed, compared with 16% of adults overall.
Motorola displayed the first of the designs, a dragon, at an annual analyst's meeting recently, but is keeping its collection of designs under wraps until next month.
Motorola convert Ami James' images to a digital format, and using computer-assisted design, etches them on the high grade aluminium phone bodies.
Motorola expects to launch the tattoos worldwide, but has not named which mobile companies will carry them.
Jeremy Dale, head of Motorola niche marketing, said tattoos will open new markets.
Dale said he doesn't have a tattoo, and his wife "hates" them on people, but "loves" the etched on phones.

Seems like it uses laser-etching. And read how Motorola actually had a meeting to extend the life of the overworked RAZR, finally resulting in this money grabbing, yet cool concept. :sigh:

Maybe this is something different because on the motorola website here it states:

"Easy removal means you can change phone tattoos whenever you want."

@haynesycop
Maybe that's a separate tattoo thing. This one talks about actual professional designs and it does mention lased etched. It also asks which networks would carry it etc., whereas the other is like a print off and stick on. I really wouldn't know.
