Nokia has quietly introduced a DIY firmware upgrade service so phone owners can update their phones over the air, or via a PC connected to the internet, and no longer need to visit a service centre to update the device.
Sony Ericsson has supported self-service firmware upgrades for several years now.

30 minutes... it hardly takes 15 minutes for the
but considering it is symbian and stuff, i guess that is pretty ok.

It certainly works, it's been about for over a week now, I got an email last week about it from Noia, and I tried it with my old N70.
Worked a treat, actually slightly better system than SE, you don't need to remove the SIM, and you don't need any special drivers, the little application (similar to the SEUS) contains all the specific drivers for the phones, they simply auto install when you attach the phone. You can also keep the phone on the mains charging whilst you update (very good idea).
All in all a nice system.

@floatlite,
Better than SE? When was the last time a software upgrade from SE resulted in the complete loss of all data?
Think again.

Not many are supported phones compared to SE. And it also took them how many years?
