No. They only support MP3 and AAC. (later models also support WMA)

AAC is the Apple format that is compatible only for iPods. WMA is the equivalent Microsoft format that works on just about any player, except for the iPod. They both offer better sound quality than normal mp3s at the same bitrate.

AAC stands for Advanced Audio Coding and is the successor to MP3 (it's also an MPEG standard, and also goes by the name M4A or MP4). It's supported by almost all modern cell phones, and notably the iPod.
Converting between lossy compressed formats is a BAD IDEA, as it greatly degrades the sound quality. In any case, iTunes can do it (right-click on the files).

Incorrect. AAC files will play on Walkman phones as well as computers with AAC players. iTunes will also play .WMA files via conversion. .WMA files do not sound as good or are not as dynamic as .AAC files.

In mobile phones though, more phones are compatible with AAC compared with WMA.

Just to further clarify. Are you speaking only of portable devices such as iPods or .mp3 players? ACC is supported on both the computer and Mac, as well as Windows Media Player. The word "only" implies exclusivity and this is not entirely correct. I have a Mac and can play .wma, .wmv files. Thus cross-platform. The same can be said with my PC. I can play .aac files as well. In the mobile you are quite correct that .aac is supported where as .wma is not.
