Hi all,
it has become very obvious to me that a lot if not all of the problems that are occurring with the latest incarnations of Symbian smartphones can be blamed on ram allocation and the subsequent lack of.

Although this is an SE forum i must say this is not unique to SE but appears to be a Symbian problem. I was always of the opinion that one of the major strengths of Symbian was the fact that it was very good at managing ram and was not ram hungry, what has changed to cause the current crop of problems? as although the amount of ram has increased in line with processor speed and technology this problem now exists.

IMO the purpose of having a smartphone is its ability to multi task, if you now need a task manger to constantly kill apps prior to opening a new one this IMO destroys one of the major purposes of having a smartphone.

As i am sure most of you are aware i am some what less than impressed by the Beta testing that takes place prior to the launch of new units and i don't mean just SE either i mean all manufacturers. Just what do they do because it appears to me they only test single apps at a time and in doing so totally under estimate just what happens in the real world and just how hard we work and expect our units to be able to perform.

Does anybody have any views on how this issue can be addressed other than the obvious increase in Ram in these units?

Marc

As I said over a year ago. SE needs to hire someone who knows how the heck to write decent FW.

RAM leakage is a 'low blow' to symbian in general and P990i in particular. I am still not sure if the symbian 'foundation' is the right one, onto which a screen input OS can and should be build. I remember Nokia tried that too (7700/7710) but quickly dropped the idea. I hope SE will sort it out somehow - but at what cost ? IMHO, WM5 is the better option for now :D This message was posted from a Nokia
