Is it just me that gets really annoyed when people do not post a picture when selling something.

I have been thinking about this for a while and just thought it may be an idea to make it compulsary to post a picture of what their selling?

Alot of people have been ripped off on here in the last 6-12 months and even though many people are distinguised members i still feel it would be a good idea to implement this.

Like many people i like to see what i am buying first and it always reassures people when there are new members selling aswell.

How about a rule were people must post a picture with a piece of paper with their name and the date on it. Not sure if this has been suggested before, sorry if it has.

I understand it would mean more work for the mods to remove such threads without pictures but i really think it would be a good step.

Opinions please?

Yes i completely agree,i've been thinking this for a while now aswell but did'nt raise the issue, thankfully you did.

Being able to see what you potentionaly maybe buying will not only cut down on fraud but may actually also help speed up the sale and attract more buyers/bidders for the seller...photos may also enourage impulse buying.

I don't know about anybody else but i like to see something before i buy it.

Yes, I too have often thought along similar lines. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a photo these days, even a picture taken with a mobile phone would suffice.

But the problem is that, as you said, it would make more work for the mods. Either that, or the forum script would have to be heavily modified to make the reply function of the trading forums different to the current normal reply function. It would have to ensure that a photograph was uploaded. OK, that's not exactly difficult for an experienced PHP programmer but as we all know, Laffen is a busy man. And Esato is not primarily a trading site.

And even then, there's no way to automatically check that a photo meets the requirements. The mods would still have to be involved.

One last moan, I've been ripped off twice on here now, and both times the trader supplied a pic with their username just as you suggested. So whilst I agree that it vastly reduces the chances of getting ripped off, it's by no means 100%

I still think it's a great idea and I really do encourage traders to upload photos and for buyers to be very cautious of traders that do not post photos, particularly if they're not in the A-Z of TT. But I don't think making it compulsory is either necessary or practical, particularly because any trader worth his / her salt already knows that uploading pics is a good idea.

Just my 2p's worth

I agree cycovision, it would not be full proof but it will help alot, just depends on whether laffen would like to implement it and how the mods feel about it, what with the extra workload involved. I just find it so annoying when people write a few little lines of what their selling, it is so infuriating, as they say "a picture paints a thousand words."

Very good idea, just one thing : as Esato has members from all over the world, how can you upload a photo, when you're posting from an internet cafe ? Not every internet cafe or library has a scanner availiable. For other photos, one can send an MMS to one's email-address, but the phone can't take a self-portrait .
We can't exclude people, only because they don't have a pc.

Good idea, even though I don't use the market area here. It really doesn't hurt anyone to just post at least one photo of the product that you're selling. Simple and effective

its not just about pictures. I was writing a post about the market thread the other day and I got distracted, forgot what I was doing and pressed refresh and lost the whole post!

anyway, what I was going to say was along the lines of how so many phones for sale often simply have people asking the same tired old questions in the first few posts. namely, "please post a pic", "is it branded?", "is it locked?", "are you interested in trades?", "where are you?" etc etc so...

I'd like to suggest a standard format for phones sale, something like:-

1. Details of the what phone it is, condition, accessories, boxed?
2. Is it new or old?
3. Is it (or has it every been) branded?
4. Is it locked?
5. Sale only or trades possible?, and if trades ok then what specifically you are interested in trading for
6. location?
7. acceptable payment methods?
8. starting price (to stop the rediculous "to get you started" offers)

and finally
9. PICTURES with member name and date

bang masseur..

i tihk you have hit the nail on the head

theres certain members that provide this as they know they have nothing to hide yet on the other side im sure theres members that fail to tell the truth about certain things...

but that would be magical, if you say pressed new topic in phones for sale you got that like template up...

a template was what I had in mind and I'm sure it can be done fairly easily.

I'll just wait for feedback on this list before passing on the request

that won't stop people deleting bits they don't want to fill it as this will merely pre-populate the post but its starter
