I currently have a P910, and have for quite some time. I've been waiting for the P990 to come out since November last year when it was announced.

However, I have heard all these rumours about bugs with the firmware and memory issues. My friend has a Nokia N80 and thats always crashing and running out of memory. Something that my P910 has never done to me.

I know there are other phones out there like the M600, but I want a camera as well.

Is it worth me getting this phone, or is it likely to hack me off as the Nokia N80 would?

Depends on what you want from the phone, ive had my p990i for about 12 days now and yes it has its bugs and issues BUT the phone is still useable. Problem is that the memory management of the phone is dire to say the least, now they brought out a new firmware a week ago and for me and plenty of other users its solved quite a few problems but some havent been solved. Im sure SE will fix them with later updates but the main thing thats been fixed is that you can now multi task alot more better. Before the update opening a few apps would cause the phone to crash, now you can have quite a few apps running and the phone isnt susceptible to crashing so often.
If you have a look at the p990i bug thread, you will see quite clearly there are a few issues still to be rectified. Granted its not as good as the p910i but i cant understand why people would compare the p990i to the p910i, they both are different phones with different UIQ systems, p910i uses UIQ2 and P990i uses UIQ3. Also the hardware is different, the p990i now has built in wifi whereas the p910i doesnt and because of this the p990i isnt as stable as the p910i.

I had the n80 when it first came out and my god that phone annoyed me to high hell and back. Again alot of people are happy with the n80, not me i hated it with a passion and it was the phone that put me off Nokias for life...well my 6680 started it off. I found the n80 very slow and not very well implemented, great features but christ they couldnt implement them very nicely. Plus not only that the n80 was a brick of a phone, so uncomfortable in my pocket plus it was quite thick and the sliding mechanism left alot to be desired for.

Now compared to the P990i, the p990i is a much nicer phone ie i can have it in my back pocket and its hardly noticed...have to keep chekcing every few mins to see if its still there or not. Its not as thick as the n80 but is wider but to be honest you dont notice the difference...having it in your hand fills you awe etc.

Would i recommend the p990i?? hell yes if you can afford it...its a superb phone/pda despite its bugs and niggles and not once have i regretted paying an arm and leg for it. As i said it can only get better with future updates from SE, even if they brought out a successor id still buy it bugs or no bugs. As someone said on another forum, if u want bleeding edge tech then be prepared to shed a bit of blood. I still am constantly amazed by my p990i just about everyday.

@Spawn
Am pretty happy with your post and am more calm in a way for getting the P990i. I am also concerned about the bugs etc but am sure the future firmwares will sort them out...

N80 has many bugs and a weak batt. Go for n73 instead if u want a good umts fone, imo p990 isnt a big deal
