Hi guys n girls,
I'm currently having fun n games with Quicktime, since an update to uicktime 6 months ago, I get a cracking sound when trying to use Quicktime, but since then I have updated to Quitime 7.1 and it still happening. Anything to do with Quicktime and it happens, but iTunes is fine.
Any ideas would be great!
Cheers

I had the same problem with winamp on one of my machines and unfortunately, it was to do with a new version of winamp being incompatible with the on-board sound chip. I ended up buying a cheap PCI soundcard and using that instead.
Like quicktime, winamp didn't fix the problem in subsequent updates
Might be worth getting and installing the latest drivers for your sound card just in case it's a known problem that has been fixed with a driver update.
Alternatively, try and find an old version of quicktime on the web, uninstall your current version of quicktime and reinstall with the older version.

OK, I feel really stupid asking this, but how can I chaeck if the driver needs updating, obviously iun Device Manager, everythings fine, and I'm sure I've done it before, but I've forgotton, and how do Iknow which driver is appropriate, its Realtek based I'm fairly sure...

In device manager, expand the tree next to 'sound, video and game controllers'. Find the entry for your realtek sound deveice, right-click on it and select 'properties'. Click the Driver tab and bob's your uncle!

OK, well I've updated the driver with a normal sound driver, then a HD audio one, and the crackling stopped, but its started again...

OK I think I've fixed it, I had to reduce the output sample rae from 192Kb to 96Kb, now its fine... I also read that Quicktime can be fussy with its drivers, which might make sense, because my PC is no slouch, and can handle practically anything.... Oh well
Cheers cycovision for your help!
