I'm on the brink of purchasing a K750i, and understand that this phone doesnt have 'flight mode' like the W series. Will upgrading to R1CA021 firmware solve this problem and provide a flight mode option?

No it wont. The only way to get flight mode would be to put w800i software on it.

I have never been on a plane that allows mobile phones on, even if they have a flight mode.

There are flights that allow mobiles, but then you don't need a flight mode!

I travel a fair amount and no issues with carrying mobile phones on board here at least. Having an MP3 player handy will surely make the flights more bearable.
