> Anyone own/experienced a ferret?
Bookmark topic
Hey there...
Well either soon or in the future I am looking at buying or rehoming a ferret. Now I've always wanted a ferret and although I have had quite a few pets and do have some pets, I have never had the experience of owning a pet ferret before. This is something I really want to do and have been reading up a lot about them lately, and well they seem so fun lol. But I thought I'd come onto Esato and ask to see if anyone here does actually own a ferret or if anyone has had any experience with one etc. Of course I really just want to know a bit about your ferret or experience etc, just so that I can get an opinion from an actual person as opposed to some book that will try to make everything seem positive.
Well I understand that they require/like a lot of fuss and are great fun etc. What I would like to know is if they require meat of any kind other than what is in the pre-made ferret food etc? For example, my sister has a friend that used to or does look after animals and rehomes them etc, and she says that this woman does have some ferrets and she feeds them rabbit legs. Now despite what she said or does, books don't at all seem to refer to feeding them meat like that, which being a vegetarian I would not be happy to do. Can anyone patch this up for me?
Apart from that just talk really... things to look out for, food, treats, fun, grooming, problems, exercise, cage/free house roam, dangers, their curiosity, how they get along with other animals like cats and dogs etc.
Thanks
P.S. If anyone for some strange reason doesn't know what a ferret actually is lol, just refer to Wikipedia...

someone down my road had one once and they said it was a lovely pet to have although to be honest i dont think they were keeping it in very good living conditions as it was left out in a wooden half broken hut in the pouring rain and snow :S

one more very important thing. the best are the swedish ferrets, they live mainly in the near of lund, kista and stockholm. they are very well designed and very clever, their main mark is the three stripes on their back. BUT u have to take care, cos some of them are crossed with the japanese ferrets, those arent that much impressive ( not so much tradition like the swedish ones ) and they got many small geen rounds on their body.

Thanks Boba...
So do you have one/some then? Or is it just stuff you know etc?
The striped ones sound cool, also though... can you get all black ones?
