I thought id start the Unofficial playstation 3 thread.

RELEASE DATE
It is due to be released on the 11/11/2006 in japan and 17/11/06 in the U.K and the USA.
SPECS
There will be 2 versions avaliable , Basic and premium
Basic features an 20gb upgradeable hard drive ,blu ray drive, and bluetooth controllers,
the premium has all of those except it comes with a 60gb hard drive, built-in flash card reader, Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity, HDMI port, and Silver-colored logo and trim.
U.K RELEASE
In the U.K the only version available at release will be the premium model which will cost £425. The basic model will be released later.
Sony has said that the black color is to be the first on sale, followed by the silver and white color in March 2007.
GAME PRICES
On top of the very high priced ps3 the games may cost anywhere from £30-£50, where £50 is most likely gonna be the price for top games.
BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE
It is Backwards compatible which means it can play ps1 and ps2 games, but u will not be able tto save the games on a ps2 or ps1 memory card although it will allow you to store them on a memory stick.
LINUX
They may also be putting a linux on the ps3 but it is unlear if its operating systm will be used to run everything
CONTROLLER
The controller will not be the much debated boomerang looking thing instead it will look nearly the same as the ps2 controllers with a few more buttons, It will also be wireless and have a usb mini-b port for charging the internal battery and u can use it for wired play.
BLU-RAY
The ps3 will use the latest optical media, Blu-ray disks ((Its Rival HD DVD))
It will also have a blu-ray drive in it. Apparently when Blu-ray drives are released there set to be at the £1000 mark so buy getting a ps3 you could save a lot.
ONLINE PLAY
It will have online play.
OVERALL
I think the ps3 is great and just like the ps2 it will storm ahead of the xbox 360 and nintendo wii in sales and quality.
But i think that it is highly overpriced but good money for what you get what i mean is there are gonna be a lot of little kids unhappy on christmas day, i doupt many parents will get there kids one of these at release and for little kids its not really suitable as it will be too complicated.
Also i think that they should just release one version and i wish the next generation media was just one not blu ray and hd dvd as its just getting stupid anyways thats another story.
I Will be getting one not right away though as its like 2 weeks wages for me.

Can't wait for this bad-boy!!! I know people are complaingni about the price, cause I'm one of them, but when you really consider what Sony have acheived here, its very much worth it.
However, like you, I won't be getting one at the launch due to costs, but come next Easter, its PS3 and hopefully a Rev. B MacBook Pro!
Maybe you should include a list of launch-day games and future releases for completeness.

Its nothing to do with being jealous...The Original thread has been open and running since 2004,its a matter of keeping the discussion in one place.
If the mods want to keep your thread open then i don't have a problem with it.

I like this thread as much as the next, I can't see there being a reason for it to be locked, it needs a twist, perhaps, as the first people get their PS3's they should comment and post pics etc and game reviews would be great for the uninformed... What you think?
