Hi. First post! I've had to move to PAYT on O2 (cheapest international texts) but am still using my K700i. Suddenly an offer has landed in my lap of a free Vodafone contract phone to use on O2 from a friend... and I'm not sure what to ask for! I've been through their site and Voda don't seem to be offering the W810i anymore, which is what I wanted, and I know is unlockable (and debrand-able). Help!

Instead, it looks like my choice from SE is the K800i or the M600i - neither of which any of my online contacts or local shops say they can unlock yet. So I don't know what to ask for. Alternative "good" phones seem to be the Nokia N73 (or N93 which Voda told me they were adding soon: the N80 is on their site but apparently discontinued), but (a) they're Nokia... and (b) doesn't look to me as if the N series are unlockable either? I'd take a wild guess that the N93 won't be cheap either...

Will Vodafone unlock a phone for me (for an extortionate fee?) in a shop? If so, will I have to prove I have a contract for it? That will be tricky as it's a gift and I don't have a Voda contract (although I have an un-topped-up PAYT sim...). None of the 3rd-party unlockers I've spoken to know when they software to do it will be available so I guess I can't count on it...

I also read a thread on Esato where someone with an M600i from Vodafone found it unlocked. Can anyone else confirm their Voda M600i (or K800i?) is or isn't locked. I'm guessing they are but... Also, how bad is the Vodafone branding of either?

What I really want is: a good phone for texting (so a non-fiddly keyboard - my K700i is medium-fiddly, I'd like a little better if poss), and I want it in BLACK! Not silver, for me. And of course as many extras I can get on it: so the good camera on the K800i weighed against the great looks and keyboard of the M600i etc... I really did like the W810i, specially with its looks and included memory card, but Vodafone have struck it off!

Oh and I'd love wifi too, for Skype or similar VOIP, but the market still looks terribly complicated for that at the moment... and I doubt I could get a swish smartphone.

Any suggestions at all to any of this, or a good alternative given the kind of phone I want gratefully received..!
