Hi!

At home, I have a PC, BT Voyager 2100wireless router and a Sony VAIO notebook connected to Kingston Karoo's ADSL service.

I use the VAIO successfully downstairs, and I know I do not need a configuration script in the LAN settings of Internet Explorer.

I want to setup the VAIO to use in the university library and can see in the instruction information from the Computer Centre for setting up the browser with the proxy configuration file.

I can see clearly tools > internet options > connection tab, LAN Settings...
and I need to add

http://www.config.university_settings/scache.jsp

My question is, if I set this up to use in the library, what will happen when I go home and want to use the VAIO on my home WiFi network connecting to Kingston Karoos ADSL service?

Do I have to change the Internet Explorer settings manually, every time I move between the library and home?

Thanks for any advice,

Ofiaich

Set it up as the instructions suggest and then, when you're at home, go back to internet options > connection tab, LAN Settings... and un-tick the box for 'use a proxy server for your LAN'.

When your back at uni, go back to the LAN settings and re-tick the box. You shouldn't have to enter all of the information again.

Hi fatreg,

When I tried it, at home, Internet Explorer wanted the user name and password that I use for university....

So I am missing something in the setup...

Ah! You made me think... it's a VPN so the cache should only apply to that particular connection,,,,

but the university info tells me to put the configuration scipt in the LAN settings....

Cycovision! thanks,.. so it is as I thought, need to disable and re-enable the configuartions script depending on where I am...

I will give it a try tomorrow...

Oh right! VPN is it? I thought you were just talking about net access.

Adding a VPN connection shouldn't have an effect on your home wireless connection at all since it's completely seperate.

Your link to the university connection instructions doesn't work so I don't know exactly what they want you to do but if it is just a proxy server, my previous suggestion should work. In theory...

Cycovision

Thanks, yes it is a VPN.

I just setup the connection on the home PC just so I could check the settings, and I can see that it appears in the Dialup and VPN list, so I know I can apply the configuration script only tot hat VPN.

Thanks ! I will try it out tomorrow...!
