I have this phone and get a 'Limited Service' message which comes up quite frequently. It then only allows emergency calls. What is this about? A turn off and back on sometimes solves it, sometimes it doesn't.
The phone was bought new off ebay and I have my orange pay monthly sim in it...?

either you have no signal where you live or the phone is barred...

Could it be to do with what kind of network it is looking for? I think this is a non 3G phone so would that have any bearing?

Hi fatreg, as it's on mostly and occasionally comes up with 'limited service' would you agree that this indicates a signal issue rather than barring (better not be barred as I bought it 'as new'!)

Sounds like a signal issue, what's the Orange signal like in other phones in your area, is it weak?
If it's strong on other phones, could be the phone has a signal problem but isn't blocked. If it's a weak signal anyway, then it could just be that the Orange signal is fairly poor in your area and the phone's picking up another network (e.g. Voda, O2, T-Mob etc.), which you can make emergency calls on but nothing else.

When it doesn't show 'limited service' I can make calls fine. Other phones e.g. K700i are fine in the same area although not perfect.
Is it perhaps that the x820 just has a poor aeiral??

Could be that that phone does have a crap aerial, for example i get a very good signal on O2 on my W810i where I live, but a poor one, sometimes going to 'emergency calls only' on a T610 I had, that particular model had a poor RF performance.
Does it look like the phone's been opened/tampered with at all? Could be someone's had the phone apart to do a repair, then either put the phone back together slightly wrong so the aerial was put in slightly misaligned or a part got missed out.

No it all came 'as new' looked completely untouched. Perhaps as more people get these it will emerge as a 'feature' of the handset
