I recently bought a SE W700Ii phone.

There is a major bug/annoyance in the phone about the display of the signal meter of the phone. (The blue bars showing the signal strength on the top left corner of the display). The problem or rather the annoyance I face is that the signal bars loose there transparency sometimes and then I get a the signal bars inside a white box in the top left corner of the phone. I noticed this to happen when there has been a change of the connected tower by the phone. If I restart the phone I again get the transparency back. Is there any way to rectify this permanently.

Secondly I would like to know is there anyway to control the timing of the backlight. (I want it to remain on sometimes.)

Thats the GPRS signal you're talking about. If GPRS settings are set, but GPRS service is not available, that blue coloring will go away and you'll see an empty box.

No I am not talking about the GPRS signal. I am talking about normal signal meter. The signal meter always remains visible there at the upper left corner it only loses transparency.

Thats not just with W700 but also with my K750 (now W800i)

.. i am sick of the blue background when the signal bar loses its transparency, i dunno how to get rid of the non-transparent signal bar .. at times the transparency is back and the phone looks good again but most of the times its the dreaded 'boxed' signal bar. If anybody has any work-around for this issue plz let us all know.

I still think you'll find that QVGA is on the ball, and that what you describe here is indeed the GPRS signal bar. It is a giant triangle that appears immediately above the normal signal bars. Blue when in range, grey/white when out of range.

Sadly there is no longer an option to leave background light as always on, and different time settings cannot be set either. Shame.

Settings > Connectivity > Data Communication > Preferred Service > CS Only

More recent phones display a 'G' icon rather than the triangle. The K800 just missed out on this.

Jasond, I really didn't want to believe you, but then I thought to give it a try and voila, as soon as I selected GSM only the transparency came back or rather the white rectangle behind the signal bars disappeared.

Thanks for helping me out as I don't have GPRS on my phone so I don't require it.

The annoyance was really driving me crazy.
