Well, i managed to figure out a way to play my movies from the computer to the phone through wifi. The problem is that i can only play movies under 100kbps . I am using darwin stream server and a d-link di634M router. As everything is internal (in the network), nothing had to be configured in the router, only install the server and set the files.

Nothing over 100kbit/s? Can this be why there is problem streaming from wap-pages wia Wifi and not over 3G?

The swedish television has a wap-page with video of news and the weather and so... It's no problem streaming if you go there with your GPRS/3G-connection. But if you use Wifi it just hung up the mediaplayer for a while... no video.

You can try by going to http://mobil.svt.se on your phones and press "mobil tv" and then for example "väder" (Weather)

The thing is I could live with this if the 3G-cost wasn't so high.. the stream takes about 0.7-1mb per minute and thats pretty expensive for watching TV!!

I also can't stream SVT through WiFi, but 3G I could. My operator has $2/Mb, that's expensive for just the news.

How can I stream files from my computer?
Is there any program I can access files on my computer in my Network?

WOOOOHO! Got the streaming to work at home.
My beautiful router (mua!) has this:
DMZ
DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is used to allow a single computer on the LAN to be exposed to the Internet.

Just put in my internal ip for the phone (192 . 168 . 0 . 101) and walla! All streaming works, without any danger to my usual pc

Which server are you using?

And have people got standard web streaming, e.g. the real streams on the bbc, to work over wifi? The video player seems to always say 'the link does not work' for me...

johnex, what file format/codecs are you using with darwin?

I've got video streaming with darwin working fine on my local network, using a bluetooth PAN, but i'm having some sound issues.

do you have access to the sample movies that come with the darwin server?

I've found that only the 'sample_50kbit.3gp' streams to my P990i with audio present.

The sample_100kbit.mp4 and sample_300kbit.mp4 files play with video but no sound.

I've tested the server with quicktime as the client and it -is- broadcasting the audio portion of the sample MP4 files.

I'm thinking the P990 -might- be dropping the audio stream due to low bandwidth on the bluetooth PAN compared to a proper wi-fi connection. Otherwise the fault seems to lie with the phone ignoring properly hinted AAC audio streams within MP4 video.

So what i'm asking is, do the sample mp4 files play with audio on your P990 when you stream to it? Or is it just the sample 3gp file with working audio like i'm finding here?

If you could let me know, thanks.
