I bought my wife a beatiful red K610i and think it's a great phone. However, I can't understand one thing about it... the digital camera zoom. Why is it only available when using the camera in lowest resolution mode (640x480) ?

If I switch the camera to 1megapixel or 2megapixel picture sizes, and then try to zoom in on a subject, it gives me the message "zoom not available in this mode".

What is the reason for this? The manual doesn't mention it. Since it's zooming done through software processing, why should it not be possible on a 1MP or 2MP picture?

its the same at every same level fones, the cam is a really simple one in k610, it doesnt support an advanced zoom. thats the way it is. that cam is mainly for fun. next to it, its an accepteable fone, got it myself aswell as second fone.

But what I don't understand is that the zooming is done by the phone software not by anything particular in the camera (there are no moving parts or anything!). Just as its possible to use computer processing to zoom into a small picture, it should be equally possible to do it for a larger picture.

These seems to be a software "feature" that maybe SE can update in a future software version...?

i dont think, cos as mentioned before its since till agse at se in this way, i am not a technical freak, but as i see, u are and if u think, it could be possible, then it shows just the uninterest of se to solve this "bug"

The lack of zoom ISNT a bug.

Sony Ericsson has nobbled the newer K750Is & it seems the K610 phones software so it wont zoom on the larger picture setting!

No idea if unlocking the phone & then flashing it with older firmware would sort it.

indeed. why isnt a 3g device worth for at lesat macro mode. for me a umts fone is over any kind of 2g fones ( even k750 ). se decidede for the same at w700, no macro... bit off topic, but theses decisions arent very logical for me. same with that zoom circus...

Its a bit of a coincidence that Sony Ericsson nobbled the K750I camera zoom around the same time the K800I was launched.

The fact is

K800I is launched.

Then Sony Ericsson starts shipping new K750Is with downgraded zoom functions, Seems a bit strange that doesnt it.

The K750I had been out over a year & then SE decide to downgrade the camera function.

Anybody would think by doing that they are trying to make you buy a K800I instead.
