i'd kill for a gmail acount, for some reason they dont do the phone activation anymore in the UK - you need to be invited by somebody with an acount

which is why I said "please see the first few threads" and further commented that "P990 and M600 settings will be the same" because the first 7 results are for P990 and M600
if it has to spelt out here again I am happy to do so.
in basic settings put your account name, name, emaill address (as
xxx@gmail.com) and set connection type to pop3
in inbox set incoming server address to pop.gmail.com
username to your gmail username again (xxx@gmail.com)
password to your own password
in outbox I don't send via gmail so I just use my operator smtp settings
now the trick that most people miss is to then click more, advanced and set secure connection to SSL. missing this usually gives timouts and other connection failures
I've set both my P990 and M600 this way and both worked first time, and this on vodafone UK, t-mobile UK and telstra AUS so I'm sure, unless your operator is blocking gmail is some way, that this should work

I assume you have:
- enabled your Gmail account for POP3 from settings at Gmail.com
- you have used all the settings Google provide inc. the port numbers and the need for SSL etc
Now make sure you are not using a proxy server for your O2 internet conneciton. You can check this from the Connection Manager on the M600. Also make sure you not using a WAP O2 connection!
Edit: Masseur, I was compiling my post while you posted!

thanks jah!
think i'm getting somewhere now. for some reason the wap acount was set up as my perferred internet acount. now that that has been switched over my phone no longer times out. it brings up a security certificate message (i believe this is normal?) but then it says pop access not granted please check username and password.
prob just messed up the settings with all my tinkering, i'm tired now i'll try acain in the morning.
