Hi there,

This is my first post in here and I would like to tell you about Valhalla Chat, a free bluetooth instant messenger for: mobile phones, PCs and PDAs.

Every week more phones are added to the compatibility list for example all these phones: SonyEricsson; K750i, W810. W900i. Have been reported to work without bugs.

What makes Valhalla Chat really cool is that you can put in the same conversation mobiles from different manufacturers and a laptop running Windows XP if you like

have a look at: www.valhallachat.com

And as I said is totally free in it will always be.

Besides it's open source which makes it even better if you know what this means.

And a nice screenshot

Is it just me or the app cant create a room in the k800i?

/edit nvm, i think its a bug, but it seems that room names need to be longer than 3 characters...

Yes, the room name must be 3 characters at least.

The sony ericsson k700i is not supported.
The thing is that it's impossible to access bluetooth through java...
So Valhalla Chat won't work in the k700i and the same thing will happen with any other Java-Bluetooth application.

I haven't heard from anyone using a k800i, so if you try it i would be great if you could report about your phone using the form on the website.

I'm trying to get the application running in as many phones as possible.
It's works flawlessly on windows XP/Linux/Mac though.

The next version, 0.3 is going to work on pocket pc's so get ready

And guys feel free to use the forum in our website to complain about things you don't like or ask for new features. All feedback is welcome.

I tried to download the windows version but my anti virus, kaspersky, yells at me saying it contains a trojan...

But the java program works well on my k800i. I say well because there are some minor inconveniences, such as when u hit the 'back' button on the phone (not a soft key) it doesn't do anything. IMO it should have the same effect as the 'cancel' softkey.

Also, this is more of a request than bug, i find the fact that the program reverts the room name back to 'VikingTalk' everytime i open it is quite annoying. I have to retype my desired name everytime.

Other than these small things i think its a wonderful program. I'm surprised i havn't seen many of these types of apps around!

Thanks for your feedback mates!

The program will remember the room name in the next version. Now that's included in the official TODO list.

The program is virus free, the guys from softpedia did a check and granted the program an award for being malware-free,
http://www.softpedia.com/progClean/Valhalla-Chat-Clean-48402.html

Besides the source code is available so if something nasty was inside anyone could have detected it. So don't worry about trying the program on Windows XP.

About Palm, I don't think it's technically possible to port it to Palm now. I'm gonna have to research a bit about this, but at least is not going to be supported in the next version.

The thing about the cancel command is a bit tricky, because every phone model handles this in a different way. For instance Nokia phones usually add an extra "exit" button that to top it all doesn't even exit properly.
So this stuff doesn't have high priority but it's considered as improvements and polish for the next versions.

Good to know that runs on the k800i

Ok i just tried using it on my frds w810 and my k800. If my k800 made the room i would be able to see all that is said, however, my frds fone will not be able to see anything that is said, not even the things he typed.

I thought this was just a problem with my k800 so i got my other frds w800 and tried it with the w810. Same thing, the phone that made the room could see everything that was said but the phone joining saw nothing... bug?
