Heya peeps just ran an update on my phone which is completely unbranded however the phone only updates to
PHONE: R4B001
CDA: R1A02 (repeated twice)
what i dont understand is why differant phones have differant CDA firmware numbers etc etc,
I understand some phones are branded but why even in the unbranded phones firmware they dont update to all the same CDA settings
cheers

Since you didn't mention your phone model, it's hard to give specific advice.
CDA numbers are given to a handset based on the specific customisation pack that phone receives. Even non-branded handsets get a custom treatment, for example specific language packs, configurations for different regions, etc. Branding also affects CDA, so if a phone is branded it will have a CDA for the operator the handset is branded to.
If the phone is unbranded, it will have a generic CDA for the region in which the phone was released to market. When you update with SEUS, you will get the latest firmware release approved by SE for general release in your region.
If the handset is branded, it will have an operator specific CDA. In this case, when you update with SEUS, you will get the latest firmware release approved by the operator (this is often an older firmware than SE have approved for general release).
If you are updating with SEUS, your handset is not branded, and you are getting an old firmware, then it may be that the latest firmware is not available in your region.
If you tell me your model number, I can tell you what the latest firmware is, but I've not been able to find a firmware with the number you gave to identify the model of phone (and therefore the latest firmware).

edit: correction, R7A001. But still, it's only just out, give it time

I'm not sure, I don't have the info for P990. R1A is only part of the cda, there is also a number (example 102425/32) which is more relevant to region.

Here is an older thread:

about that topic. Some are still valid:
It will give you an idea how that entire thing is setup.
