I am sure this has been mentioned elsewhere, but I have a different spin on it.
I hope you all remember the Z1010 3G phone. It took an absolute age to be released and when it finally appeared it was replaced within 3 months by the V800i/Z800i in the UK.
With the P990i, many have waited ages for the release and it is clear many have found it to be "sub-standard". It was no rush job as it was a clear 10 months from announcement to release so why do it and get it so wrong?
I feel the probability of a replacement, either as an M-Series or P-Series is very likely and there is nothing to say SE won't do another Z1010 job and release a new more desirable model as soon as stock of the P990i is down. I hope someone within SE and without scrupples spills the beans on what is coming soon!!!

Hi Sunnychad,
If and it is a big if your assumption is true there is no way SE would announce this until the have shifted as many P990's as possible. Although i can't imagine that those that have recently purchased a P990 being very pleased and that's putting it mildly.

I totally agree, none of the recent purchasers would be pleased at all. I am likely to become a purchaser as soon as O2 has stock on 2 October so am starting to think carefully. Something about a replacement has been mentioned elsewhere on the web so it is something to bear in mind.
I was thinking hard about where SE had done it before and then remembered the Z1010 so there is no reason for them not to do it again!
Time will tell so let's see

People said the same thing about the P910i. It's difficult to predict the future. Besides if it is superceded quickly I, like a majority of ppl who paid extra to get the P990i early, will probably just end up buying the replacement handset a few months later

Although companies make the same mistakes over and over again, the history of the P series shows, that there always was roughly close to a year between releases. And you don't want to screw up your flagship product marketing.

I dont see that the z1010 and P990 have similar issues. I'd say the z1010 was SE getting used to 3G and sorting out any network teething problems. I dont thing there is anything wrong with the P990. If they have fixed UIQ3 for a future device, they've fixed it for the P990. As for the future, I'd say the M600 will get Wifi and the W950 a camera. Maybe no more P series.

I'm a recent purchaser and I'm *very* pleased.

Am I missing something ? I'm very pleased with the P990i. Still think it should have had to old style jog dial and as its new their are bugs to iron out but apart from that its great. Camera quality is perfect for a phone. Need TomTom to port GPS software though.

I am very pleased with my P990 too. Before I bought it I was worried about all the negative post, but Sony has been working hard to get their flagship product perfect. So far to me it's perfect. I own a Kjam and i would never consider buying the TyTn just because they added 3G, I live in Canada and we don't even have 3G. But I don't think they will do that, as with the Z1010, I think that everything that is wrong with the phone can be fixed with updates. Well lets hope they don't pull a Z1010.
