Go to:
Menu =>Settings => Connectivity => Data comm. => Preferred Service =>

Select GSM only to turn off the GPRS Service which make the blue icon go away. To activate GPRS again go to the same directory and select GPRS and GSM.

Why would you want to do this?

ok... but the thing is that when u turn the GPRS off it will remove the GPRS Indicator, but if i want to use WAP then u need to go thru all those menus to activate GPRS back to its position....

i own a W800i EU_2 which was unbranded by default... on there, there is no GRPS Indication UNTILL i have been connected to GPRS... when i stop browsing it turns itself off automatically.... its supposed to be like that...

nomy - Yes, it's supposed to be like that, don't worry. And no, you don't have to go thru all those settings again just to be able to use gprs. The blue triangle is there just to tell us whether there's gprs signal or not. "GSM & GPRS" simply means gprs signal MONITORING at ALL times.

Still dont get why you want to remove the icon???

@chilli Um you might want to re-read the first post and then you will see why I put all those settings He wanted it removed, he didnt wan't to know what it does as you posted

Thank You Very Much Chili... that helped alot.... thats what i wanted.... so now everytime i surf the wap... the GPRS indicator comes on.... stop the surf...it turns off....

Thank You chili....!!!!!

as for Sirhackalot.. thank you for giving me the steps... but i dont understand why did u wanted me to select GSM and GPRS option again... as its useless to be turn on all the time even if ur not using GPRS...
u can still use GPRS in GSM ONLY mode...

anyway... i dont find this post weird to be posted in software section as i thought there might be a patch to this...

@drich - Yeah i was thinking of mentioning that too. It's the same thing in my K610, 3G monitoring - or rather the 3G function itself? - (the blue sphere) can be turned off, but gprs monitoring is now always on. @Nomy, sirhackalot gave the settings just in case you wanna know if there's gprs signal in an area. I mean if there's none, no point in starting the browser, it'll be a waste of time.
