haven't tried this myself,but have read at
places that it does work.Anyone willing to try it here?

Yeah, this was mentioned on here a while back. It works because service pack 2 overwrites pretty much all of the XP system files with a patched set based on XP Pro. Rather than create 2 service packs, one for XP home and one for XP pro, M$ created just one and used reg hacks to limit the functionality in XP home.
I don't think that you get the complete feature set of XP Pro though.
