> K800i Change CDA
Bookmark topic
I've just received my new SIM free K800i from MobileFun.co.uk.
I noticed on the box the letters "FR". Sure enough the phone has the french customisation.
Software Info on the phone reads:
Customisation
CDA102511/54 R4A
cxc1250490 R1CB001
FRANCE
I would like to know the best way to change it to EU1 and Generic UK customisation. (CDA102511/2....I think)
Is it possible to change just the CDA number and have SEUS install the EU1 firmware on the next available update or will I have to do a full firmware flash. I'm not too keen on doing the full flash with DaVinci or Wotan after seeing some posts on forums with phones hanging at the "Please Wait..." screen after flashing.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
PS why would Mobile Fun (UK) sell a french customised phone in the first place?

I have the same problem - I bought my phone from
www.theorder.co.uk and it is also French. I was a bit annoyed, considering the price I paid, so I e-mailed them requesting an English handset and they replied saying that a SIM-free English K800i was never made - the handsets bought connected to a network are English because the network software changes them. But a SIM-free handset is French. I've no idea about what you asked - changing the software - as I speak French anyway so I can live with it! Now I've found out why, I'd rather have this handset than an English one full of network sotware. There are only a few settings that can't be changed to English, and I can live with that.

Surely a sim-free english model must have been made!

It would appear not - I've copied the response I had from The Order below.
Thank you for your enquiry.
Actually, you cannot purchase a UK version of this handset as they are all French i.e a UK version has never been released. Animations, support & downloads etc can be changed and you may find all the help you require from this link -

I think this must be the case if someone who bought their handset from a completely different place has also had the same problem. And the link they provided was actually just a link to the general help section on the SE site and does not provide any info on how to change the software version. I imagine this could only be done by flashing the phone, and for such a trivial thing, I won't be bothering.

This sounds very strange to me. Even the scandinavian version that I have, has english language as an option, both for menus and for typing (T9). The french version is possibly the only version that does not have english also.
Can it really be that the operators are so strong in the UK that they have managed to buy *all* k800's in uk version? One colour version perhaps would be more likely, for example a red k610 is only available as "3" branded in Sweden.
